The process depicted above explains the use of three strategies in instructional
scaffolding that is demonstrated for the lesson “The Earth’s Structure”. The first is the use of
think-pair-share which assists students to individually think about the topic or answer and share

students ’thinking. Visual aids stimulate some students especially after the teacher-led
demonstration in the first section of this lesson. For example, when asked to complete the
graphic organizer of the Earth’s structure, many completed the blanks before the actual

able to think critically and creatively. Through scaffolding, learning is socially constructed
through interacting with the material as well as more knowledgeable individuals (Vygotsky,
1962).
