Q01. What is your name?

A. My First name Dipenker and Family name is Dey. Please just call me Dipenker.

Q02. Do you work or study?


A. I am currently working as a Sub-Assistant Engineer at Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd. And I am also
studying for the IELTS to continue my master’s in engineering at University of Alberta next year.

Q03. How are you feeling today?


A. I am feeling a bit anxious, because I am really wanting to get a good band from this exam. Otherwise, I am feeling
well.

Q03. Where do you live in?


A. I reside in a two bed-room apartment with my family on the third floor of a high rise building in the metro polytan
city of Dhaka. Not far from national parliament building, just a kilometer away from Hotel intercontinental.

Q04. What do you like your hometown?


A. My hometown is Mymesingh. Mymensingh is situated on the banks of the river Brahmaputra. It is an old and
historical rich city with a lot of heritage buildings. And I like to visit those places very much. Mymensingh is really
a good city to live in.

Q03. How did you get to this exam?


A. I got here by public transportation. I took a bus. And it took me about 10 minutes to reach here.

Q04. How will you go back?


A. I will go home the same way, except that I am going to have a pit stop at my friend Shamim’s house on the way.

Q05. What do you do at the weekends?


A. Well, when I am not studying, I like taking my wife out to a restaurant and a watch a movie. Like last Friday when
we watched a new romantic movie.

Q04. How many languages do you speak?


A. I speak fluent Bengali and I would like to believe that I can speak good English as well.

Q05. If you could learn another language, what should it be and why?
A. I would like to learn a bit of French if I have a bit of time, not only because I could speak and practice with some
of my foreign friends, but it is also widely spoken in some countries around the world, so it would be very useful.

Q06. How have learning language changed?


A. Studying languages has changed a lot in the past few decades because of considerable improvement in
technology and rapid globalization. It has become much more possible to study from native speakers of a
language both locally and through the internet. I have studied a lot of English with native tutors and using apps.

Q04. How often does it rain in your city?


A. There is not much rain in Dhaka city. It could be 60 to 80 days per year. But in the rainy season it rains for four
to five days at a time.

Q04. Where do you think is a fun place to go with a child?


A. I would like to go to Zoo with my kids. Where they will enjoy and get a lot of fun. There they will learn about
different kinds of animals. And learn about the eating habits and behavior of different animals. They will be able
to see in real life the animals where they have read about in the books.
Q04. Have you any hobby?
A. Yes, I have. My hobby is slightly different from others. And it is collecting train ticket. Because I love travel and I
am a big fan of Bangladesh Railway. From my childhood, I have a huge collection of train ticket. I write the
journey date and purpose of journey behind the ticket when the journey is completed. Every ticket is not only a
sign of a journey but also a collection of history of my daily life.

Q. What do you like about your home?


A. I like that my home is specious and is conveniently located just minutes’ walks from shops and restaurants.

Conveniently located: Easy, Comfortable, Easily accessible.

Q. What do you like about your work or school?


A. I like that, I get to interact with a lot of different people at my workplace. I am quite social, so this keeps life
interesting.

Keep life interesting: Makes living more eventful and enjoyable.

Q. And how will you go back home?


A. I will go home the same way, except that I am going to have a pit stop at my friend Shamim’s house on the way.

Pit Stop: a break in travelling, usually for food or use of a bathroom.

Q. How many hours do you sleep in a day?


A. I get about 7 to 8 hours of sleep a day. Usually from 11 PM to until 7 AM. I find this amount is the right amount of
to give me a full charge for the next day.

Give me a full charge: To be completely energized.

Q. What helps you to sleep better?


A. When I get fresh air and exercise, and eat some healthy food, I sleep like a baby. I went for a big hike in the forest
last weekend and when I hit the hay, I was out like a light.

Hit the hay: To go to bed.


I was out like a light: to instantly fall asleep.

Q. Are there any colors that you do not like?


A. Yes, I am not particularly big fan of grey because I find it bland and boring. Often when I buy any dress or choosing
any decorations, I try to avoid this color.

Not particularly big fan: disliking something.

Q. How do you feel when you do not get enough sleep?


A. Like most people, I feel quite grumpy when I am low on sleep. I get cranky and I am irritable. My attention span is
low. And I tend to snap at people. So it is definitely better for me to get a full night rest.

Q. Have you ever had difficulties in sleeping, and if yes, Why?


A. Yes, I have. I have specially had difficulties getting shut eye. When I have some important and stressful event the
next day, such as this IELTS exam. My mind tends to race thinking about the upcoming events of the next day.
Fortunately, if I go for a hike and exercise that helps.

Racing mind: thinking fast and repetitive thought.


Q. If you could learn to make any dish, what would it be?
A. That’s an interesting question. Well, I am really into Indian cuisine as well. So, it would be great to learn how to
make a delicious Mutton curry. If made right. I think it’s just superb.

Q. What are difficulties of working or studying at home?


A. One of the challenges are distractions. At times, friends will knock or call unexpectedly, and at other times, I am
just itching to take a break and watch a show. Also, it is sometimes annoying that I cannot contact my colleagues
as quickly as in the office to get assistance.

Itching to do something: feel a restless or strong desire to do something.


To snap at someone: to speak sharply or angrily to someone.

Q. What do you use your table for?


A. Well. If I am thinking of my table in a bedroom, I use it for studying and working. I am learning English and also I
troubleshoot some electronic circuits. So I use this table for these purpose mostly. Yesterday I was burning the
midnight oil getting ready for this exam.

Burning the midnight oil: to read or work late into the night.

Q. What is important to maintain a healthy relationship with others?


A. I think that both respect and time are very important to maintain a healthy relationship. I mean, as I mentioned
just now by meeting with my siblings on games night, we earn greater respect for one another.

Kazi Nazrul Islam has written many songs and poems against the British rule. Angered by this, the British threw
him in jail. After the war of independence of Bangladesh, the then President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman brought him to Bangladesh from Calcutta and gave him the status of National Poet.
