Subcontractors

appropriate PPE to their own personnel and subcontractors.
3 PROCEDURE
3.1 Compulsory standard personal protective equipment
The use of safety shoes, hard hats, safety glasses and high visibility vests/coveralls with reflective strips
is mandatory for all operational areas. The living arrangement (camp, guesthouse, vessel
accommodation, cabin, bridge, change room, washroom facilities etc.) and office areas are not being
considered as operational areas as long as no construction/maintenance activities are being executed in
these areas; if so the area must be cordoned off and the appropriate PPE must be worn. A coverall is
mandatory for all workers when exposed to sparks, splinters, dust and contamination by hazardous
substances.
Fall protection
Adequate fall protection is mandatory when working above 1.5 meters or within 3 meters of an edge (in
case of an excavation if it is deeper than 1.5 meters with a slope steeper than 30 degrees where
collective protection is not in place (barricade, guard rails etc.). For details on working at height reference
is made to DEME-QHSES-SOI-059.
A minimum of one lanyard is required and must be securely fastened to the fall harness. The lanyards
total expansion length must not exceed the height on which the work is performed. If need be, two
lanyards must be used to ensure that one is attached to a secure anchoring point at all times.
All lanyards must be secured to an adequate anchoring point at all times.
After a fall, all fall protection devices used must immediately be removed from use until they have been
inspected and approved by an inspection authority or competent person.
3.3 Training
All persons making use off any PPE when required shall be adequately trained in the use, maintenance
and inspection of the PPE required. If needed, additional training shall be given for additional PPE.
