    Install a Barcode Scanner

    1. TURN OFF USER ACCOUNT CONTROL (Not in Windows 8)


    2. DOWNLOAD AND EXTRACT SCANNER DRIVER TO DESKTOP
    3. INSTALL THE DRIVER
    4. CONNECT THE SCANNER
    5. VERIFY DRIVER COM PORT IN DEVICE MANAGER
    6. INSTALL PMSCAN (FORMERLY PERFECTSCAN)
    7. SET UP PMSCAN WITH CORRECT COM PORT

    1. TURN OFF USER ACCOUNT Click: Click: Do not adjust


    CONTROL (UAC) 1. Start button 1. Start button User Account
    2. Control Panel 2. Control Panel Control.
    3. User Account and Family 3. User Accounts and Family Safety
    4. Add or remove user account 4. User Account
    5. Select an account, e.g., Guest 5. User Account Control settings
    6. Go to the main User Account page 6. Move slider to Never Notify
    7. Change security settings 7. Click OK
    8. Uncheck “Turn on User Account Control (UAC)…” 8. Restart computer
    9. Restart computer

    2. DOWNLOAD AND EXTRACT Download the scanner driver.


    SCANNER DRIVER Click the link above to download the driver. Then extract the downloaded zip folder to your desktop.
    3. INSTALL THE DRIVER Right-click Setup.bat, select Run as Administrator, then click Next through the installation process.

    4. CONNECT THE SCANNER Plug the scanner into your computer’s USB port.

    Note: In Classic View, double-click Administrative Tools. 5. Double-click Port (COM & LPT)
    5. Double-click Computer Management 6. Look for:
    6. Device Manager (left side, bottom of the list under System Tools.  [The name of your scanner]

    7. Double-click Port (COM & LPT)
    8. Look for:
     [The name of your scanner]

    If necessary, scan the barcode for your scanner. (Download one from the list below.)
    Scan it only once (hold scanner button). It will beep three times and finish installing the driver.

    6. INSTALL PMSCAN See Knowledge Base article #28: Install PmScan Software (PmScan was formerly PerfectScan)

    7. SET UP PMSCAN WITH Open PmScan


    CORRECT COM PORT Old version:
    1. Right-click icon at bottom right
    2. Click Options / Devices / Barcode scanner / COM Port
    3. Ensure correct COM Port is selected.
    New version:
    1. Click Settings on the left hand side
    2. Click COM
    Change COM PORT to match Device Manager info.

    If necessary, download the Configuration and Test Barcodes.
