ACTION RESEARCH
I. Situation : Difficulty in problem solving of some Grade II- pupils of Section Indium
in Mathematics in Potenciano A. Abejero Elementary School.

II. Problem : Why are some Grade II pupils of Section Indium have difficulty in
Mathematics Problem solving?

III. Objective : To improve problem solving skills in Mathematics of Grade II Indium.

IV. Probable Causes:


 Inability to comprehend and understand well in reading situations
 Low mastery of the fundamental operations and concepts skills in
Mathematics.
 Short attention span during classes.
 No follow –up of parents at home.

V. Probable Solutions:
 Enhance pupils’ interests in understanding concepts and steps in problem
solving.
 Enhance pupils’ reading comprehension.
 Memorize table of multiplication.
 Provide appropriate and interesting Math activities involving the four
fundamental operations.
 Encourage parents to have an extra time to follow-up their children at
home.
 Conduct intensive remedial instruction in problem solving and reading
comprehension.
VI. Prioritized Probable Solutions:
 Conduct remedial class in Mathematics particularly in problem solving.
 Enhance pupils’ interest in understanding concepts and steps in problem
solving.

XI. Reflection
Mathematics provides necessary concepts and life skills needed by every
learner as he/she proceeds to the next stage of his/her life. It is indeed, a need
that learners must be enhanced in their understanding of the basic concepts and
principles in Mathematics using problem solving.
