Product is an item offered by market to satisfy our want or need. Every product has three levels
for better understanding. These three levels help us explore the nature of the product further.
Each levels of product adds more to the customer value. These levels are

1. Core Product : The first level. This answer the question of what the buyer is really buying?
The fundamental needs or wants which is satisfied by the product is called the core product.

2. Actual Product : This involves the packaging, designs, features , quality level and brand
name of the product. Every part of the product is important to the buyer in order to satisfy his
needs or wants. Company must put thought into these components as well.

3. Augmented Product : Last but not the least is Augmented product level. It offers additional
customer services and benefits. This includes warranty, delivery services, installation,
instructions on how to use the product.

Five products with their product levels are included below :


Product: Coca-Cola

Core benefit :
The core benefit of Coca-cola is to quench the thirst of consumer.

Actual product :
Coca-cola is sold in bottles made from Recyclable plastic, glass bottles which can be returned
and economy packages. Coca-cola is a sweetened fizzy drink made from pure carbon with a
burnt taste of vanilla. It has a unique logo which is recognizable by almost everyone.
Coca-cola’s quality sets them apart from their competitors. Coca-cola sets their products quality
standard. It involves sugar level, Carbon dioxide level, condition and cleanliness of the bottles.
The taste should meet the company standards as well.

Augmented product :
Coca-cola prints the product’s expiry date in the product itself. Coca–cola distributes its
products to the stores, and we can find them in the stores. There is even option to buy from
themselves directly from the websites which will be shipped to the buyer. Coca-cola offers zero
sugar zero calorie ‘Diet Coke’ which has the same taste but with no calorie. They provide a
customer care number for service and complaints.
Product: Lay’s Classic Potato Chips

Core benefit :
Solution to a consumer’s desire for a snack.

Actual Product:
Good quality, affordable potato chips made from potatoes, salt, and canola oil by the potato chip
industry’s most well-known and trusted name—delivered in a thin plastic bag, which can be
turned into a wood substitute for benches, docks, and more. The Lay’s logo is remarkably
simple, depicting only the brand name spelled out in white across a red banner wrapped around a
yellow sphere—simple, classic. Lay’s Classic chips are packaged in an attractive, golden-colored
plastic bag that can be “upcycled” and used in wood substitutes, etc. Compared to other
producers of plain potato chips, Lay’s Classic potato chips offer superior taste. The Lay’s brand,
and especially the Lay’s Classic sub-brand, represents experience, quality, and consistency in the
minds of its customers. Lay’s Classic potato chips are highly compatible with the lifestyles of
many individuals,

Augmented product :
While warranty and delivery and credit do not apply to Lay’s Classic, Lay’s does offer after-sale
service and product support by providing answers to frequently asked questions, an online chat
service, customer support phone number, and mailing address on its website. Lay’s is a
Convenience Product, as there is comparatively low customer involvement in the purchase, a low
price, widespread distribution in convenient locations, and mass promotion by the company.
Product: Nestle Corn Flakes

Core product :
The core benefit of Nestle Koko Krunch is to make kids drink milk. It is made in an attractive
way, where kids will find it fascinating to consume milk.

Actual product :
Nestle Koko Krunch is designed with attractive colorful packages. The packaging usually attracts
kids with cartoons. In Koko Krunch, it can be seen that a hungry lion cub is posing with a bowl
of cereal and milk. Apart from that, they tempt kids as they usually provide toys or puzzles along
with the product. The toys are mostly visible from the outside which makes kids want the Koko
Krunch more. The packaging plays a huge role in enhancing the quality. The logo is designed
with chocolates which also makes it attractive. Apart from all these, it also shows that it is
healthy enough and is ideal for everyday breakfast. Wheats are also displayed in the package
which persuades even adults to purchase them.

Augmented product :
The expiry date of the product is printed on the packaging. Koko Krunch boxes are distributed to
supermarkets and now it can also be found in local stores as well. Apart from that, Nestle also
provides home delivery service. Koko Krunch also offers varieties. They introduced “Koko
Krunch Duo” which consists of both chocolate and caramel flavored cereals. They also came up
with 15gm sachet packets making it affordable and available for everyone. For support and
feedback, they provide a customer service number.
Product: Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk

Core Benefit :
Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk provides the core advantage of satisfying hunger and cravings for a
chocolate.

Actual Product :
Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk is retailed in colorful primary packaging of HDPE over a
skinny foil. for various versions of Dairy Milk ‐ Fruit & Nut, Roast Almond, Crackle, and
Desserts, the corporate is using different color combinations retaining the name style common.
The new packaging retains the dominant purple color, a glass and a 1/2 milk though the tonality
of the planning is now more colorful. The new design has conversational style to the designs. as
an example, the Fruit and Nut, conceived by the brand because the most representative of the
designs have the ampersand with the nut and fruit trapped within it. Cadbury Dairy Milk is
a brand of chocolate manufactured by Cadbury.

Augmented Product :
The expiry date is always printed on the packet itself. It can be found in supermarkets, retail
stores as well as local stores. It can be ordered from a lot of websites online and their official
websites as well. Cadbury can be contacted through their customer care numbers for complaints
and support.
Product: Oreo Cookie

Core product :
The benefit of the customer buying Oreo is hunger satisfaction. It fulfils the taste buds, also
helps in the consumption of milk.

Actual product :
Oreo is a premium creme-filled cookie which comes in various flavors and package. It is a
sandwich cookie consisting of two chocolate wafers with a sweet creme filling in between
contains with sugar, flour, oil, cocoa, high fructose corn syrup, leavening, cornstarch, salt, soy
lecithin, vanillin, and chocolate. It can be consumed with milk as it complements the taste. The
design is simple but pretty. Blue color of the package with cookie and milk at the middle. The
most popular are a package with two and four original cookies inside. Oreo has a big verity of
taste and size of the package for the different target group. Oreo has only one product line it is
Oreo cookies with different taste and size.

Augmented product :
An augmented product has been enhanced by its seller with added features or services to
distinguish it from the same product offered by its competitors. Now, Oreo provides few features
to their product like Oreo cookies with mint taste or small size of cookies. These innovations
make target group bigger and attract new customers. The expiry of the product is always printed
on the packet. Oreo cookies are distributed to Supermarkets, local and retail stores and is widely
available. The customers are provided with service after buying. The customer care number can
be reached for any type of complaints or services.
