b. Greetings Good morning Ma’am Bea. Good morning,
Good Morning, 10-Diamond! Classmates! God Bless you!

c. Classroom Management
Class, is my audio clear? Yes, Ma’am!
Try to relax yourselves; make sure you are in a
quiet place and seated at your most comfortable
area, wearing decent clothes and that your
internet connection is stable. Also, make sure
that you are far from anything that would distract
your focus on our online class.
Please be reminded of the following:
 Keep your audio on mute; turn it on once
needed
 Turn your camera/video once requested.
(Students will follow the teacher’s request.)
 FOCUS!
Yes, Ma’am!
Are we clear on these?

d. Checking Attendance
(Students will turn on their cameras.)
Please turn on your cameras so that I can take a
screenshot of our google meeting class. This will

Very good! You did learn from our previous

lesson! We are better off proceeding with
today’s learning session.

2. Motivation

“ADD-VOCAL-SEE!”

Before we pull through with our session, let’s

have a bit of a mind and vocal exercise. As you
can see, we have a virtual picture puzzle. We
need to put the puzzle pieces to where these
should be to see the picture in full. I’ll be
needing 4 volunteers who would try to identify a
particular word using its IPA spelling flashed on
the screen; each correct guess constitutes to
one puzzle piece that would walk us through
today’s topic.

Are you ready? Who would like to volunteer? (4 students will volunteer)

You got it right! What about the second word, Is it cause, ma’am?
Sheryl?

Yes it, is, good! What’s the third word, Grace? Ma’am I think it is principle.

It’s advocacy.
Very good! Now, Eddian, what’s the fourth
word?

Good job, students. We now have the picture. Yes, we do.

Do you think it is promoting a cause or action Yes, there is!
about something?

Definitely! Is there a principle expressed in the

picture?

Actually , that picture is a part of what we call an

advocacy
3. INSTRUCTION
a. Analysis
Advocacy is an active promotion of a cause or

It could be an activity by an individual or group

economic, and social institutions.
Thank you. Furthermore It includes many
activities that a person or organization
undertakes including media campaigns, public
speaking, commissioning and publishing
research

Take note that advocacy should not be

interchanged with service.

For you to be able to understand it clearly, let us

differentiate advocacy from service.

Please read, Sophia and Bea, respectively.

(a student would read the definition)
Advocacy - any action that speaks in favor of,
recommends, argues for a cause, supports or
defends, or pleads on behalf of others.
(a student would read the definition)
Service - the action of helping or doing work for
someone.

I have here an example:

1. You join a group that helps clean the

coastal area. (service)

2. You organize a group to rally against

privatization of hospitals. (advocacy)

Take a look at the other examples:

3. You join your barangay in packing goods

for the victims of typhoon.
I think it is a service, ma’am
Is it a service or advocacy?

Very good, it is an example of a service.

How about the last example?
That can be considered an advocacy
4. You meet with your co-parishioners and The rightness and integrity of the cause
band together to work against drugs in your
neighborhood and seek the help of a network to
gather all for the same cause.

Very good! The 2 nd and 3rd examples are you

Abuse, respectively.

situations that may fail the people in a
. community or society. The situation may be
resolved through persuasion or through a
compromise or through some political or legal
action

Thank you, Venice! With that, advocacy makes

use of persuasion to engage others to partake in
a particular endeavor to resolve a problem.

Yes, we can!
Can you still follow?

An advocacy can be effective with:

There are factors that can make advocacy 1. The rightness and integrity of the cause.
effective. Who could read these to the class? 2. Comprehensive and well-researched
documents supporting the issue.
3. The power and commitment of the
advocates and the use of powerful media.
4. The use of effective strategies, tactics,
and tools for dissemination and for the
gathering support.

Apart from these factors, there are steps on 1. Open with a statement that would engage
how to make an advocacy successful. Read the your audience.
first, Cherine

Alright! We can use a statement that gets your

audience’s attention right away, perhaps using a
dramatic fact.

Take a look on the example on the screen,

what catches your attention with the article? Ma’am, I think the title “Litter is Pollution; You’re
the solution”

Exactly! This is actually our lead-in as to what

the advocacy is about.

What’s the 2nd and 3rd step, Jyrus?

2. Present the problem.
3. Provide facts, data about the problem.
To make our advocacy as persuasive as
possible, we have to present who it affects, who
it impacts. Data is important to demonstrate that
a problem exists and to support your position

Take a look in the example. What problem is

raised in the article? Throwing of garbage in the river could can lead
in clogging the drainage that may cause floods
Keen reader, indeed!

Are you getting a clear picture of an effective

advocacy? Yes, we are.

Let’s take a look at the 4 th steps. Please read,

Raine. 4.Share a story or give an example of a
problem
Thank you! An example or story puts a human
face on the issue and makes it real and more
compelling.

What about the 5th and 6th steps? Yes, Grace?

5.Connect the issue to the audience values,

Let’s watch this short video clip: concerns or self-interest
6. Make a question/Clearly state what you want
the person to do.

Can we consider it an advocacy? Why or why

not?
Yes, because it presents an example scenario
and also expresses what a person is being

to seek for help- to reach out.

So you see, advocacy is focused on providing

solution to a problem.

Is everything clear? Do you have any questions?

None, ma’am.
b. Abstraction

Let’s see how deep your understanding is.

Based on our discussion, what is the difference

between advocacy and service?
Advocacy is an active promotion of a cause or
principle and is one of the possible strategies or
approaches to solve or resolve an issue or a
problem while Service is the action of helping
someone.
That’s right! What makes an advocacy effective?

Advocacy can be effective if the cause is well

presented with proofs.
Correct! Any other thoughts?

Advocacy can be made effective if an effective

media is used.

Absolutely, Bea!

When and why should one engage in advocacy?

One should engage in advocacy if there is a

problem that he/she could possibly be part of a
solution because it is a way of expressing our

(Answers may vary from 2 or 3 more students)

Thank you for your answers! All of your answers
are accepted.

4. PRACTICE
At this point let us have a virtual collaborative
activity. We will follow the assigned small group
arrangement from the previous quarter.

I will be providing a Google Slide link accessible

by everyone in the class. This contains the tasks
assigned to each group. I will be giving you 10
minutes preparation time prior to presentation of
your outputs. Choose someone from your group
who’d be sharing their screen; choose another
or two who’d discuss about your work. Are we
clear on that?

By the way this is how you will be graded.

Please be guided accordingly

(Teacher will flash the rubric on screen)

HERRERA’s group ( TEAM #ADVO-CRITICS )

justify your stand. Delegate a team member that
will present your work.

(Each group will now work on their tasks)

Time’s up! Let’s see your group’s work.

You all did well! After our session, you will
see your group score on our Edmodo Class
Stream
