Existence of the Literary Dilemma in the Modern Society

Noli Me Tangere has an impact in our current society. This novel was
considered to be one of the instruments that contributed to the Philippine Revolution
of 1896 that initiated Filipino nationalism. The novel not only awakened Filipino
consciousness of sleeping, but also laid the grounds for aspiring to freedom.

The effect also included the expulsion in Calamba, Laguna, of the Rizal clan.
Extradition lawsuits against him have been filed. This led to his decision to write El
Filibusterismo, the sequel to Noli Me Tangere.

It is also the novel that urges the Filipinos to fight against the colonizers and
reminds us of our past today. The characters and the events in the story are close to
Filipino people's lives, history, and beliefs. The ideals that the novel teaches us to be a
successful role model that will help our country are marked in our hearts by this
literary piece. Reading this literary piece will help us understand nationalism's real
meaning and be a catalyst for change.

There are problems that presented in Noli Me Tangere that exist until today's
generation that affect our society and the nation that's why we need to read and learn
this novel of Rizal. Conflicts that have overshadowed the chapter of this book, such as
inequality, poverty and violence, remain the same issue to this day.
