ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL


THE DIGITAL LITERACY OF GENERATION X TEACHERS AT PASAY CITY
EAST HIGH SCHOOL IN THE NEW NORMAL OF EDUCATION SCHOOL YEAR
2020 - 2021

In the amidst of Pandemic that inclines to attest the


strength of educational system in the Philippines, the
Department of Education under the Leadership of
Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones pursue the opening of
classes in the school year 2020-2021 with the outpouring
support from our learners, teachers, stakeholders, and
RATIONALE CONTEXT
OF THE supporters, victory is assured for education.
ACTION
However, thru the rise of digital era in a blended learning
RESEARCH
approach, Generation X teachers (born from 1965-1980,
ages 41-56 years) find it difficult to keep up to new normal
of education whereas, it requires every public-school
teacher at least to be a technology literate with the
presence of various platforms and applications.
Based on the researcher’s observation, most of the
Generation X teachers are having a difficulty in performing
their task specially in terms of technology literacy since
this will be the first time they will teach in a virtual
classroom. Most of them un able perform to their fullest
since there is a technology barrier between them and their
learners.
PROPOSED This study aims to assess the level of digital literacy of
INTERVENTION, Generation X teachers and assist them to their struggle to
INNOVATION, persevere with the new system of teaching-learning
STRATEGY process under several platforms which is way more
diverse from the traditional face-to-face class.
The study aims to answer the following questions:
1. What are the demographic background of the

- Age
- Sex
- Years of Teaching Experience
- Digital Device Ownership?
2. What is the mean score of the respondents in digital
literacy in terms of:
- Generation X Teachers’ software experience and self-
assessment of digital skills
- Computer-related access and usage
- General computer knowledge
- Generation X teachers’ perceptions of computers and
the use of technology for teaching?
3. What faculty development program in Technology
Literacy can be developed as a result of the research?

PARTICIPANTS: Teachers of Pasay City East High


School ages 41 – 56 years old.

SOURCES OF DATA INFORMTAION: The sources of the


data are the responses of the teachers of Pasay City East
