    Self-Assessment Questions 4-1

    1. Discuss the stages in the program development process (10 pts).


    The first step in the process of program development is the thorough
    understanding and identification of the problem for which is the program or software
    is to be developed. All the factors like Input/output, processing requirement, memory
    requirements, error handling, interfacing with other programs have to be taken into
    consideration in this stage. Problem analysis means we gather the required resources
    to solve the problem defined in the problem definition phase. The algorithm
    development developed a step by step procedure to solve the problem using the
    specification given in the problem analysis. Coding & Documentation is generally a
    very small part of the entire program development process and also a less time
    consuming activity in reality. In this process all the syntax errors i.e. errors related to
    spelling, missing commas, undefined labels etc. are eliminated. Testing & Debugging,
    the program is tested on a number of suitable test cases. A test plan of the program
    has to be done at the stage of the program design itself. This ensures a thorough
    understanding of the specifications. In debugging this stage the errors in the programs
    are detected and corrected. This stage of program development is an important
    process. Debugging is also known as program validation. Lastly, maintenance
    updating and correction of the program for changed conditions and field experience is
    accounted for in maintenance. In maintenance the solution (program) is used by the
    end user. If the user encounters any problem or wants any enhancement, then we
    need to repeat all the phases from the starting, so that the encountered problem is
    solved, or enhancement is added.

    2. If will develop an application program, what would it be? State your reasons. (10
    pts)
    If I were to develop an application program it would probably in line with my
    course as an accountancy student. I will call this as AccounThink which will provide
    information to any business and accountancy related courses that will cater every
    topic that are relevant to achieved learning outcomes. Since, we have no face to face
    classes this has a huge impact to the students who need further information that can
    help to fully understand the lessons. Also, AccounThink will be an application
    program that will bring inspiration and advices to the students who are struggling in
    studying. I hope that this would bring a great help to every students to strive harder in
    a happy learning environment.
