Competency Assessment
This Competency Assessment assesses the following Outcome(s):

GB560M1-1: Analyze the impact of business processes on organizational performance.

Introduction:

Redman (2019) states that the world is changing quickly, change is hard, and many change
efforts fail. A leader must have a good plan in place to navigate through these changes to stay
successful. Now you will apply that knowledge to a company scenario, building an
implementation plan into the process so it is actionable. Select one business from the current
winners of the Malcolm Baldrige Award Recipients. Assume that you are the new CEO of this
business who has goals of expanding your business. Depending on your choice, you can select
one or more from the following list:

o Expand nationally or internationally

o Change your business offering(s) or target customers
o Merger or acquisition
o Another goal of your choice

For this 4- to 6-page APA-compliant paper (not including title and reference pages) respond to
the following:

Section 1- Overview and Goal Description

● Select the company that you will use for this paper. Provide an explanation and rationale
for your choice. As there are many categories in the Baldrige site, you may want to
explore an industry you know well or look to expand your knowledge by selecting an
industry you are unfamiliar with for increased learning and knowledge building.
● Describe the vision, mission, and values as individual components in the current state of
the company. Explain the systems relationship of these elements, and how they are
related to help the company achieve success.
● Provide any additional background information (i.e., financials, primary products and
services, etc.) to ensure the funding agency has an overview of the organization.
● As the new CEO, identify the growth goal(s) you would like to achieve including a
rationale for this choice(s).

Designing, Improving, and Implementing Processes
Page 7 of 19

Section 2- Vision Integration into Current State

1. Describe the current vision of the company. You may reuse the content from Section 1.

2. In your readings, you saw how a personal vision statement can be a foundation for
creating a business venture and/or incorporation into the current vision of a company
you will be leading. For this section, you will present a plan for how you would integrate
your vision into what currently exists for the company you have selected for analysis.
Support your thoughts with at least two sources from the readings, as well as two other
sources you uncover in your research. For this section, you may use sources that are
not considered scholarly as your additional sources.

Include in this section:

● Your personal vision and process you used for your personal vision creation
● A draft of your revised vision, incorporating your vision into the current company
vision
● The process you will use to involve all stakeholders in the new vision creation
based on your draft. You may use both descriptive and graphic representation
tools (i.e., flow chart) to present this process

3. The measurement process you will use to determine the effectiveness of your new vision
on organizational success.

After you receive access to each module, you will be able to see the submission
requirements and a Checklist Rubric for the Competency Assessment.

Competency Assessment
This Competency Assessment assesses the following Outcome(s):

GB560M2-2: Apply project management methods to be able to achieve a process change.

PC-2.1: Achieve goals through planning and prioritization.

Kogon, Blakemore, and Wood (2015) note that an increasing amount of time is spent working
on or leading projects for many workers in the current business environment. This assessment
is targeted to help you understand the primary elements of the project management process,
how you can choose a project management methodology that will be the best fit for your project,
and the skills you will need to be a successful project leader. In your readings and videos for
this module, as well as in personal life for many of you, you have discovered that there are
many variables to successfully managing a project. The project management methodology
chosen for a project must reflect the organization's requirements to ensure success. Included in
these variables are the size and complexity of the project, the process that one uses to manage
a project, and the skills that are needed to successfully complete the project.

For this 4- to 6-page APA-compliant paper (not including title and reference pages) respond to
the following:

Section 1 - Project Management Overview

● Using your readings/videos, and at least two additional sources, which can be from non-
scholarly sources, describe the factors that may be used to select a project management
methodology.

● Identify at least three project management methodologies that you are most interested in
learning more about. These can be from your research or personal experience. Provide
an overview of these methodologies, include but do not necessarily limit to:

○ Primary use for this methodology

○ Types of projects this methodology is best suited to
○ Technology support provided
○ Cost
○ Formal project management expertise required, or skills needed

● Present an analysis of similarities and differences in these three project management

methodologies. Completing this type of assessment will help you, as a project leader,
understand which method you may want to select the next time you lead a project.

Section 2- Personal Project Selection and Analysis

● Identify any recent projects you have worked on over the past year, they could be of any
size and in any context. They can be from work-related or personal experience.
GB560 ExcelTrack Module Preview
Designing, Improving, and Implementing Processes
Page 11 of 19

● For this section, you will need to select two projects, one that was successful and one
that was unsuccessful. You may want to select projects from different areas of your
experience (i.e., one work-related, another from personal experience). Using different
types of projects can help you understand the applications of the work you have
completed in Section 1.

● Personal Analysis - Successful Project

○ Describe the project including size, scope, personal/professional, your role,

project charter (if any), timeframes for project duration, other information seen as
relevant to describing the project.
○ Identify the project management elements and/or methodology you used to
manage this project. The research you completed in Section 1 will be helpful to
you.
○ List the skills you demonstrated to help the project be successful. List the skills
that you could have used to increase the project success.
○ After this review, complete an analysis of where you may have been more
successful.

● Personal Analysis - Unsuccessful Project

○ Describe the project including size, scope, personal/professional, your role,

project charter (if any), timeframes for project duration, and other information
seen as relevant to describing the project.
○ Identify the project management elements and/or methodology you used to
manage this project(s). The research you completed in Section 1 will be helpful
to you.
○ Analyze the project for areas of weakness using the research you completed in
Section 1 and personal reflection.
○ Identify what skills were needed to overcome the weak areas using the research
you completed in Section 1 and personal reflection.
○ Present at least two recommendations for improvement, supported by your
research in Section 1, and personal experiences. Include the strengths identified
from the project that was managed successfully.

Competency Assessment
This Competency Assessment assesses the following Outcome(s):

GB560M4-4: Evaluate change management plans.

Redman (2019) states that the world is changing quickly, change is hard, and many change
efforts fail. A leader must have a good plan in place to navigate through these changes to stay
successful. Now, you will apply that knowledge to a company scenario, building an
implementation plan into the process so it is actionable. Select one business from the current
winners of the Malcolm Baldrige Award Recipients. Assume that you are the new CEO of this
business who has goals of expanding your business. Depending on your choice, you can select
one or more from the following list:

● Expand nationally or internationally

● Change your business offering(s) or target customers
● Merger or acquisition
● Another goal of your choice

For this 4- to 6-page APA-compliant paper (not including title and reference pages) respond to
the following:

Section 1 - Overview and Goal Description

● Select the company that you will use for this paper. Provide an explanation and rationale
for your choice. As there are many categories in the Baldrige site, you may want to
explore an industry you know well or look to expand your knowledge by selecting an
industry you are unfamiliar with.
● Describe the vision, mission, and values as individual components in the current state of
the company. Explain the systems relationship of these elements, and how they are
related to help the company achieve success.
● Provide any additional background information (i.e., financials, primary products, and
services, etc.) to ensure the funding agency has an overview of the organization.
● As the new CEO, identify the growth goal(s) you would like to achieve including a
rationale for this choice(s).

Section 2 - Change Management Best Practices

● Conduct a search for best practices in change management. Use at least two resources
from your readings/videos from this module, as well as two other sources you have

uncovered in your research. These sources are not required to be scholarly. You may
also include personal experiences as part of your research.
● Present a synopsis of three best practices in change management, describing how they
are able to support the change that you are working on for this assessment.
● Describe where you will incorporate these best practices into your plan.

Section 3 - Change Management Plan Implementation

● Complete the change readiness assessment from your learning activity, and list the
results. Discuss how this information can help you prepare more successfully for leading
this change.
● Define the goals of the change management plan for the goal you have identified in
Section 1.
● Present the change management plan you will be using to fulfil the growth goal. You
may use the video as seen in the readings, Managing Change.
