CASE 6: DISHA AGRI FARMS

Q1) How does Disha currently organize her logistics? What do you
think are her aims and priorities? Currently Disha organizes her
logistics by following functions

a. Local deliverables (within 50 km) are made by own transportations

and for distant customers, it uses parcel service.

b. Order collecting i.e. Information system is processed through

websites.

c. Currently sourcing, pricing material handling/packaging is done

manually.

Disha wants to expand by moving all the processing to an industrial

estate. Following would be her priorities.

a. Organizing logistics by responsive supply chain strategy.

b. Expanding product range by moving processing to an industrial

estate.

c. Standardization of product package sizes and products. Ie. Made to

stock order point shifting for better response to orders.

d. 3PL outsourcing for deliveries of products.

Q2) What would be the effect of the expansion on the logistics? What
problems would Disha face and what options does she have to
overcome them?

Expansion on logistics will lead to increase in cost to setup

infrastructure for transportations especially distributions and
warehousing.
Disha will face challenges for packaging standardization for products,
on time deliveries to customers and complete material flow and
information flow to be restructured for processing center operations.

Following options she has to overcome the challenges –

a. She has to standardize product package size. She has to shift order
point from MTO to MTS.

b. She has to outsource 3PL services for better distributions.

c. She has to standardize operations for new processing systems , as

her core competencies lies in processing.

Q3) Identify the key drivers of supply chain that influence her supply
chain strategy?

Following are key drivers of supply chain in her supply chain strategy –

a. Own logistics for deliveries and courier for distinct deliveries. ie. 3PL
transportations

b. Website to collect order ie. information system

c. Farm for growing herbs ie. sourcing

d. Pricing strategy are set up based on differentiation focus e.

Inventory management, warehousing material handling and packaging
resources will be required for new processing centers considering the
capacity of plant.

Q4) Would you recommend a responsive or efficient supply chain?

I would recommend a responsive supply chain, with standardize

packaging with MTS ordering point and 3PL logistics outsourcing for
distribution of products.
Case 11: Primal Auto parts

1.If you were George Havering, how would you start your study? What
steps would you follow, and what would you aim to put in your report
to Primal?

If I were George, I would start my study by exploring the distribution

system. Precisely, this is for the reason that studying the distribution
system tends to be a crucial aspect of supply chain strategy of of
primal auto parts. Exploring or else studying the latter system will
enable me to determine how to come up with an effective system of
distribution. Therefore, studies that puts into emphasis the study of
the distribution system will enable facilitate a variety of components of
product distribution, thereby reducing competition.

2.What type of logistics systems might you consider? How would you
compare these alternatives?

George should have proper planning by deliberately allocating and

maintaining the sufficient capacity of each plant in order to avoid
bottlenecks. Second step is to consider automation and new
technology to track the materials from the time it’s received in the
facility to when it’s shipped out. Third, find the right people in order to
quickly align with the customer demands. Fourth is to have a better
warehouse management and consider moving to a “just-in time”
system for a more flexible production environment and a responsive
supply chain. Fifth is to ensure efficient transportation which can track
the routes of each trucks or any transport service. And last is to
prioritize strategic automotive logistics solutions to keep the supply
chain operate efficiently and effectively. In addition, George should
also include the idea of reverse logistics. Then, compare the new
strategies to the old and see if it produces better results.

To minimize bottlenecks, George should first have good planning by

intentionally allocating and maintaining sufficient capacity of each
plant. The second stage is to think about using automation and
modern technologies to track items from the time they arrive at the
facility to the time they leave. Third, identify the correct individuals so
that you can promptly respond to consumer expectations.

For a more flexible manufacturing environment and a responsive

supply chain, the fourth step is to improve warehouse management
and consider shifting to a "just-in- time" system. The fifth step is to
assure efficient transportation by tracking the paths of each truck or
other mode of transportation. Finally, to keep the supply chain running
smoothly and effectively, emphasize key automotive logistics
solutions. George should also include the concept of reverse logistics
in his plan. Then, compare the new techniques to the old ones to
discover if the new ones deliver superior outcomes.

3.What information would you need for this study, and how would you
collect it?

By getting the data from previous operations and comparing it to the

suggested alternatives. Then observe and understand if there are any
improvements about the capacity of each facility.

Case 9: Friedland Timbers asa

Q 1 Why do the logistics costs seem to be rising at the same time?

The driver explained that if they reduce the average size of order, it
will make more shortage of material that will cause the need of more
express deliveries for it is urgent which cost a lot. So, the transpiration
cost will rise.

Q 2 What do you think are the basic problems in Friedland?

As stated from the result of Johann investigation, the basic problem of

FT is the poor sales forecast of the management department. Because
of misestimate of demand and planned low production.
Q 3 What would you recommend Johann do?

Improve more accurate projection of the demand. Have a training for

the employees for new knowledges, tools, techniques to apply on to
the company.
