m7 SRT Lesson 1 1
m7 SRT Lesson 1 1
m7 SRT Lesson 1 1
Technology Standard Addressed: ISTE Educator Standard 7B: Use technology to design and implement a
variety of formative and summative assessment that accommodate learner needs, provide timely feedback to
students and inform instruction.
Overarching Question: What is the relationship between multiplication and area of a shape?
☐Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):
XInfusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.
☐Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is
student-driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and
determining the technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a
facilitator.
☐Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity:
Prior to the SRT activity, students will learn about area and how to find the area of a rectangle. Students
will learn about the different parts of a rectangle and why we multiply to find the area of a rectangle. To
introduce the SRT activity, students will first be instructed to get a school laptop from the laptop cart in
order to begin the activity.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):

☐Assess prior knowledge ☐Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐To illuminate common
misconceptions X Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐Test preparation
☐Survey/Poll ☐Discussion starter ☐“Homework” collection ☐Other (please explain):
Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: Students will then go to the Kahoot! website
and type in the game pin. Students will be instructed to enter their first name only as their user name.
During the SRT activity, students will answer the questions on the Kahoot! using the school laptops
provided. Students will also be allowed scratch paper in case they need it to solve a problem. Students will
have to work fast as the questions on Kahoot! are timed.
If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (7-10). If you
cannot provide one or two critical thinking questions in your assessment, please list a question or two you
would want students to provide an open response to below. Use your Bloom’s terms to design the
question(s): https://create.kahoot.it/share/area-of-rectangle/5e7711c7-8e3e-4d6e-896a-713857337f6e
Open Response Question: How would you identify what measurements to use to find the area of a shape
versus the perimeter of a shape?
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
X Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
Students will receive immediate feedback after every question.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity? How will the data be used? After the SRT activity,
students will receive feedback based on how fast and accurately they answered the questions. The teacher
will collect data from Kahoot! to see who will be needing additional support. The information collected
from this activity will be used to provide support for students who need it. The information collected from
this activity will not be used as a grade, only for practice and to differentiate instruction. Students who
need additional support/ differentiated instruction will be put into small groups with the teacher for help,
while other students also get into small groups to complete different activities and tasks.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. My learning goal is to discover what SRTs are most
helpful to provide feedback for the teacher, myself, to differentiate instruction for students who need
additional support.
Reflective Practice: These activities motivate students to answer accurately and in a timely manner. The
activity also helps students get familiar with being on a time limit since most of their standardized tests will
be timed. This activity was used more as quick review activity before moving onto the next standard which
is more complex. To further extend this lesson, I could introduce another shape so that they are learning
how to find the area of two shapes at the same time. A helpful technology tool that could assist me in this
lesson is Khan Academy.
