WHAT I NEED TO KNOW

Ajanta Cave of Maharasthra

Ajanta Cave can be found 107
kilometers from Aurangabad and 60 kilometers
from Jalgaon. A cluster of 32 Buddhist caves
not far from a medieval village of the same
name, the site is a protected monument in the
care of the Archaeological Survey of India.
Since 1983, the Ajanta Caves have been The Ajanta Cave from a Far
pronounced as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Photos from

the scarp of a cliff are either Chaityas (chapels) indian-art
or Viharas (monasteries). On the walls of the
caves are paintings, many still glowing with
their original colors. The outer walls are
covered with brilliantly executed sculpture. The
subject of these paintings is Buddha that
relates the life of Lord Buddha and tales of his
previous earthly encounters.
Some details contain the famed
paintings of Bodhisyattas Padmapani and
Vajrapani along with the seated Buddha

Shiva The Cosmic Dancer

Shiva constitutes a portion of a robust triad of divine energy within the
Hindu religion. There is Brahma, the kind maker of the universe; there is
Vishnu, the insightful preserver; then there is Shiva, the destroyer. “Destroyer”

in this sense is not an entirely negative force, but one that is broad in its
impact. In Hindu religious philosophy all things must come to a natural end so
they can begin anew, and Shiva is the agent that brings about this end so that
another fresh cycle can start.

Mohenjo-Daro
The Archaeological Ruins at Mohenjo-Daro or
the “Mound of the Dead” are the qualtiy-preserved
urban settlement in South Asia starting back to the
beginning of the 3rd millennium BC, and work out a
significant impact on the subsequent development of
urbanization. The discovery of Mohenjo-Daro in 1922
uncovered proof of the customs, art, religion and
administrative capabilities of its occupants. The well- The Archeological Ruins of

elaborate drainage system; wells, soak pits for

transfer of sewage, and a large granary, bears
testimony that it was a metropolis of great importance, enjoying a well-
organized civic, economic, social and cultural framework.

Rangoli
Rangoli, one of the most stunning and most
attractive art style of India, is comprises two words,
'rang' meaning 'color' and 'aavalli' meaning “colored
creepers” or “row of colors”. Rangoli basically
comprises the craftmanship of making designs or
patterns on the walls or the floor of the house,
utilizing finely ground white powder along with

different colors. Numerous family in the Indian blic-domain-photo-fwtzz
subcontinent make use of Rangoli designs for
beautifying the courtyard of their house.
The traditional form of Rangoli made use of designs and themes based on
nature, such as mango, creepers, flowers, swans, peacocks, etc. Even the colors
in the traditional art form were extracted from natural dyes, like barks of
timbers, leaves, indigo, etc. The substance used in the Rangoli patterns of today
give either a very flat look or a 3-D effect. Rangoli designs incorporates
geometrical patterns, the swastika, lotus, trident, fish, conch shell, creepers,
leaves, trees, flowers, animals, etc.

Shidarks
On a Kyrgyzstan village, women throughout
history contributed a great deal of time and effort in
making beautiful and elaborate felt carpets (shidarks).
The work on a single carpet is time-consuming and can
take few months in the event that one woman does the
entire work. The pattern normally follows the Kyrgyz
decorative tradition. The colors are sharp, but vary
somewhat according to where the maker comes from. https://trvlland.com/en/kyrgy

sentimental value for its owner. These carpets were to be inherited or given
away, not sold. Among the traditional drawings of a shyrdak are animals, deer
horns and inscriptions, which are a coded message to its owner.

Ketini
Turkmenistan is home to the handcrafted silk
cloth "keteni". The weather conditions of the region
have always promoted cultivating high grade
mulberry plantations. From times immemorial,
Turkmens have been successfully dealing with
silkworm breeding. Owing to its durability,
brightness and beauty of design, their custom-made
textile was extremely valued and was in high demand
not only among the local population.

primarily with natural dyers distinguished by the
intensity of tones, extreme durability and ecological
purity. Producing natural and mineral paints is a complicated occupation
requiring certain knowledge. While preparing the dyers, it is necessary to
observe balance in weights strictly. For this purpose, Turkmens utilizes special
scales. As a result of dyeing, the cloth acquires not only new coloring but a
specific strength.
