INTERNET AND COMPUTING FUNDAMENTALS

LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET
Name of Learner: _________________________________________ Week #: _________
4
Year and Section: _________________________________________ Rating: __________

Learning Competencies:
 Distinguishing basic output devices
 Determining specialized output devices

General Instruction: Do not write anything on this sheet. Write your answers on a Yellow paper. Don’t forget to write
your name on your answers sheet.
Basic Output Devices

Output devices are any piece of computer

hardware equipment which converts information into
human-readable form. It can be text, graphics, tactile,
audio, and video. Monitors and printers are two of
the most commonly used output devices used with a
computer.

An output device works by receiving a signal

from the computer and using that signal to perform a
task to display the output.

A computer can still work without an output

device. However, you'd have no way of determining
what the computer is doing. By using an output
device, you can view and get the results of input from
a computer.

ACTIVITY 1
Direction: The following items listed below are examples of output devices. Explain how they work as output devices
in terms of receiving and transmitting data or information.
1. Speaker
2. Printer
3. Projector
4. Monitor
5. Headphones

ACTIVITY 2
Direction: Give the names of the following output devices. Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.
SPECIALIZED OUTPUT DEVICES

Specialized output devices are used much less frequently than specialized input devices. This is
because these devices are not required for basic computer feedback; rather, they are usually to optimize
the user experience above and beyond what the computer can provide upon purchase. These devices
include, for example, upgraded computer speakers for enhanced sound quality, screen quality, or print
quality. While a blind person might want to ensure he or she has a high quality microphone to ensure
highly efficient voice recognition (input device), he or she would probably not be as concerned about
hearing the voice synthesizer/ text reader in surround sound (output device).

ACTIVITY 3
Direction: Give the function and uses of the following specialized output devices. Write your answer on a yellow
paper.
1. Screen Magnifier
2. Thermal Printer
3. Plotter
4. Voice Synthesizer
5. Projector

ACTIVITY 4
Direction: Answer the following questions and write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.
1. Give the significance of specialized output devices. Cite 3 examples of specialized output devices and
provide an explanation on each of their uses and how it affects people.
