#Intrinsic Motivation

Daniel Pink' s Pink's Drive theory of motivation is derived

Motivation
from his book. His theory rests on the notion
that the ultimate motivators are intrinsic and
they are autonomy, mastery and purpose.

Theory
Autonomy
—— being self-sufficient to direct our own lives

Autonomy is the need to direct your own life and work. To be fully motivated,
you must be able to control what you do, when you do it, and who you do it with.
-Four main aspects: time, technique, team and task
Self-direction is a natural inclination
All humans are built with inner drive
-DP students can seek out autonomy support from teachers to gain
encouragement and meaningful feedback, which will be beneficial for their
furthur improvments and inspire their mind.

Mastery
——self-improvement to learn and create new things

Mastery is the desire to improve. If you are motivated by mastery, you'll

constantly seek to improve your skills through learning and practice.
Provide “Goldilocks tasks” - tasks which are neither overly difficult nor
overly simple
Create an environment where mastery is possible - in order to foster an
environment of learning and development, autonomy, clear goals,
immediate feedback and Goldilocks tasks are required.
-DP students should focus on the process of study instead of the final grades,
and thus they are keep motivated, also, they can try to immerse themselves in
the environment where mastery is possible.

Purpose
—— self-esteem and drive to do better by ourselves, for ourselves,
and for others

Take steps to fulfill employees’ natural desire to contribute to a cause greater and
more enduring than themselves.
Use purpose-oriented words such as “us” and “we”
Place equal emphasis on purpose maximisation as you do on profit maximisation
Communicate the purpose
-DP students should always use "us" or "we" when doing group work so as to make the
whole group feel united. Also, groups members should communicate the purpose of
their project first in order to achieve a more target result.
