Repeat this until you have greeted every child.
Tell the students that we are going to celebrate Vegetable and Fruit Day.
Encourage children to eat more vegetables and fruit because they are good for their
health. A vegetable patch can be cultivated in the playground.
They can bring, for example, 2 or 3 oranges, bananas, cucumbers, apples, carrots and
guavas.
Concept Building (25 Minutes)
Tell the students that market is a place where each vegetable / fruit is priced at some Rs.
Arrange a set like a market from fruits which students brought in the class, now students
are pretending to give money to buy fruit from. At lunch time, the teacher could make fruit
chaat for everyone to share... it is a good way to introduce recipes.
Make a chart showing pictures of common fruits and vegetables. Record the names of the
children who eat these during one week. It is essential to explain that eating fruit and
vegetables is healthy. For example, a banana, an apple, some grapes, cucumber, and
tomato (a combination of green, yellow and purple foods) or pomegranate, lady fingers,
radishes, carrots, and capsicums (red, green, white, orange, and yellow) are readily
available fruits and vegetables.
Theme activities may appear non-mathematical, but for 3 to 6 year olds, all learning is
integrated.
