TITLE

CAD/CAM CNC MILLING MACHINE

INTRODUCTION

The use of computers or workstation in the analysis, modification, creation, or optimization

of a design CAD software is Computer-aided design (CAD. Which is used to increase the
designer’s productivity, the quality of design improved, communication through
documentation improved and a database for manufacturing created. The form of electronic
files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations are often the CAD output.

OBJECTIVE

1. Knowledge of the process that involved, and tools in manufacturing processes.

2. To be able to perform the laboratory works properly with appropriate techniques with
standard operating procedure.
3. To learn to use CNC Milling Machine to produce product.
4. To generate NC code.

APPARATUS

In order for this to be done, student must acquire all of this equipment and software
such as: -

1. Computer
2. SOLIDWORK or CATIA V5 Software installed in the system

3. CNC Milling Machine (SIEMEN840) nearby

SAFETY AND EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

1. Create block in CATIA with dimension 100mm x 50mm

2. Add the block thickness of 25mm
3. Create student ID in BOLD in drafting and save the file in “.ig2”
4. Open the student ID file that saved then copy then paste the student ID into the block
5. Then, click “geometrical set”
6. Then, click “start >> shape>>Generative design”
7. Click on “create rough stock”
8. Then, click “insert>>axis system”
9. Set Part Operation 1
10. Set reference machining axis system, rough stock, design part and safety plane
11. Proceed with roughing
12. Generate NC code by clicking “genereate NC code in a batch mode”
13. Use SIEMEN840 IMS post-processor file for NC code to produce

CONCLUSION

The NC code that produced is: -

During the experiment, we found out there are errors identified that affects the results.
The percentage error obtain was quite large due to several error or during calculation.

 Device error – The apparatus used is not reliable because of the apparatus
(protractor) in the lab is not maintained or located accurately to the interest level. But
the angle still can be obtained by using the protractor which is drawn by pencil.

 Human error – This experiment is conducted by human so there must be some error
in terms of results readings and maybe the procedure. Parallax error is one of the most
common errors in conducting the experiment besides the handling of the motor is not
accurate also lead to cause in large percentage error.
 Environment factors –This factor slightly effecting the values and thus causing
error. The experiment was done in a very conducive laboratory but possibilities of the
present of blowing wind must be considered.
