Claudia Vourvoulidis
Technology in school is a big debate, two sides strongly believing they are right. One

thinks technology in school is bad and should be banned, and only a “distraction. Well, I

disagree with this. I believe technology in school is a good thing and should be used, along with

encouraged to further students' educational journey so they are prepared for the future.

Everyday technology is advancing and spreading, appearing nearly everywhere nowadays

including schools. Each day students interact with technology outside of school, making them

very familiar with it and they tend to know more than adults. Using technology in school can

make it easier for them, since it is something they are very familiar with. Nowadays they mostly

know how to learn through technology, so using it in the classroom would make it easier

(Wantulok,T).

Also, regular lectures have limitations while technology does not. Students can access or

learn almost everything through a computer, while working at their own pace. Whether that’s

ahead of other students or a bit of a slower pace. Teachers can also create creative ways to teach

lessons such as digital field trips, integrating social media, gaming websites, or even a classroom

calendar. This could eliminate long lectures or boring written assignments (Wantulok,T)..

Even though not everyone is on board with the idea, they need to for the student's sake in

order to prepare them for the future. If teachers want students to be successful in the future, they

need to be familiar with technology. It is becoming a big part in nearly every industry and job, so

the sooner students learn and become comfortable, the better. “Technology has made itself part

of every aspect of our lives today, and the students who understand it are the ones who succeed

in the business world.” (Wantulok,T).

Schools are already starting to make the use of technology in school more common with

online testing. Most schools have integrated this method of testing since it is an easy and
efficient way to grade and get a lot of tests done in a short amount of time. Plus, it can be used to

check student’s progress almost instantly. It allows teachers to track how well a student

understands specific subjects, and what needs to be worked on.

In conclusion, technology in schools cannot be avoided. It is a part of everyday life and

students use it every day. Schools should use this to their advantage to help their students and to

track progress. If technology is used right it can allow students the time they need to learn and

prepare them for the future, while saving time and keeping them engaged.
