While the entire nation mourned the CRPF men who were killed in the militant attack at
Pampore on Saturday, an unseemly display of caste prejudice halted constable Vir Singh’s funeral
at his village, Nagla Kewal in Shikohabad, Firozabad district.
Upper castes of the village refused to allow a public land to be used for the cremation of the slain
soldier, who is from the Nat(acrobats) community. It was only after the intervention of district
officials that villagers agreed to give up a 10 by 10 metre plot for the last rites.

26 october 2017 Dalit Woman, Unborn Child Killed for 'Touching' Bucket in
Bulandshahr
On the morning of October 15, Savitri Devi, a Dalit woman collecting

garbage from homes in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr District, accidentally
‘touched’ a bucket belonging to Anju, an upper caste Thakur.
The innocuous incident which shouldn’t have merited any attention

however triggered an attack on Savitri in the caste-stratified locality.
Here’s how her neighbour Kusuma Devi described the incident: “Anju
stormed towards her, punched her repeatedly in the stomach and banged
her head on a wall. She kept accusing Savitri of ‘defiling’ her bucket by
touching it,” reported the Indian Express. Later, she says, Anju’s son Rohit
joined his mother in beating Savitri with a stick.
Savitri and her unborn child died six days later.

honours to an upper-caste family, and a Dalit man sat cross-legged in front of upper-caste men.
Dominant caste members also were enraged when Dalits protested the sale of marijuana in the
area by people from a neighbouring village and intimidated and threatened the Dalits. [71]
When the Dalit caste protested the intimidation and threats from the dominant castes in the
village with the local police in retaliation a gang of 15 dominant caste members raided the Dalit
village at night attacking people indiscriminately killing three and injuring six

24 June 2019 Dalit Sarpanch killed in day light :

Manji Solanki, a 55-year-old deputy sarpanch of Jalila village, Ranpur taluka, Botad district about
150 kilometres from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was riding his motorcycle when a car rammed into his
motorcycle and knocked him down. As Manji Solanki fell down, the occupants of the car, a group of
men belonging to Kathi Darbar (Kshatriya) community, thrashed him with sticks and pipes. After the
attackers left him on the road, Solanki called his family for help. He had been helping several dalits
of the village to fight cases of atrocities and that had irked the members of the upper caste who
had threatened Solanki multiple times.

2019 suicide of Dr Payal Tadvi
On May 22, 2019, Dr Payal Tadvi, a 26-year-old Schedule Tribe gynaecologist,[73] died by

committing suicide in Mumbai.[74] For months leading up to her death, she had told her family that
she was subjected to ragging by three “upper” caste women doctors[75] however, the accused
denied of having any knowledge of Dr Payal's tribal background. [76][77] They allegedly went to the
toilet and then wiped their feet on her bed, called her casteist slurs, made fun of her for being a
tribal on WhatsApp groups and threatened to not allow her to enter operation theatres or perform
deliveries. A few hours before she took her life, she had reportedly told her mother, once again,
about this harassment.

4 june 2020 ,Dalit Men Beaten, Paraded With Shoes Hung Around Their Neck in UP
In a grim reminder of the 2016 Una flogging incident, three other

oppressed caste men were tied up, beaten, forcefully tonsured and
paraded around with shoes hung around their necks in Lucknow’s
Barauli Khalilabad village.
The incident happened on 4 June after the three men - one belonging
to the OBC and the other two belonging to Scheduled Castes - were
allegedly caught stealing a fan from a house of a 'Brahmin man', the
local police said.

8 june 2020- Dalit teen shot by upper caste youth for praying at temple in
Amroha
ADalit boy was shot dead by some youth in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha on Saturday.
Four youth in the Domkheda village came to 17-year-old Vikas Jatav's house at night
and shot him dead while he was sleeping.
According to the victim's father, he got into an altercation with the upper caste village
youth over praying at a temple a week before his death on March 31.

A New Indian Express report said that according to the 2016 National Crime
Records Bureau data, of all crimes committed against the members of the
Scheduled Castes, the highest is against Dalit women. A lion’s share of all
cases against Dalits include assaults on SC women to outrage her modesty,
rapes, attempts to commit rapes and insults to the modesty of SC women.

Sex crimes against SCs/STs rising since 2014

Since 2014, sexual violence against the Scheduled Castes (SC) has
been the most dominant form of atrocities perpetrated against the
marginalised group, and has been increasing marginally each year.
According to the latest National Crime Records Bureau statistics,

13.9 per cent of all atrocities committed against SCs included rape
or sexual assault. In 2015 and 2014, these crimes constituted 12.73
per cent and 10.9 per cent of all crimes respectively.
In the year 2016, similar patterns were recorded against Scheduled

Tribes (ST). Rape accounted for 14.8 per cent of all crimes reported
against STs, followed only by 12.7 per cent cases of assault on
women, with intent to outrage their modesty.
