GRADE 7 SCIENCE

SECOND QUARTER

✔ORGANIZATION OF LIFE
✔CELLS
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
1.Why is the cell considered as
the basic unit of life?
2.Why do organisms
reproduce?
LEARNING COMPETENCY:

Describe the different levels

of biological organization
TRANSFER TASK:

“It is a Small World – A

Very, Very, Very Small
World!”
TRANSFER TASK:
GOAL:
To create and demonstrate
an analogy for cell
structure/cell function.
TRANSFER TASK:
ROLE:
Students will take the role of
a “designer” who will design
the cell analogy (the parts of
their home) with all
appropriate components.
TRANSFER TASK:
AUDIENCE:
The community.
TRANSFER TASK:
SITUATION:
The students will design a cell analogy with each
part of the cell structure and each organelle
having a corresponding role. The students will
have to think of both the structure and function
of each component and explain their reasoning
(e.g. Lysosome is composting center of a
restaurant, breaks down waste). Students must
pick either a plant cell or animal cell to create an
analogy for.
TRANSFER TASK:
PRODUCT:
Students will submit a project (computer generated,
hand drawn, picture cut-out, model, etc.) to
demonstrate their analogy (e.g. drawing of “Cell as a
Home”). Each individual component of the analogy (the
parts of your home) can either be written on the
project or turned in on a separate piece of paper with
the project. Make a video presentation to communicate
your idea to your fellow classmates. You may want to
make a script to help you talk to the class.

Learning Target:

13. Biosphere
Part of the Earth in which life exists including
land, water, air and atmosphere.
Life is organized into 5 levels:
Cells
Tissues

Organisms

Ecosystems
There are 5 Levels of
Organization in Multicellular
Organisms:
• 1. Cells
• 2. Tissues
• 3. Organs
• 4. Organ Systems
• 5. Organisms
• 6. Population
• 7. Ecosystem

size and shape for the

job they do
In more complex
organisms, cells
are not only
specialized but
grouped together
in tissues.
Muscle Tissue

A tissue is a group of similar

cells that are organized to do
a specific job.
T I S S U E S
Tissues are made of the same type of cells
grouped together to do a specific job.

Examples: 4 different types of animal

tissues are epithelial, muscle, nervous, and
connective. This pink sponge has only
cells but they are not organized into
tissues. The blue Man-o-war has tissues
but no organs.
Different tissues working
together to perform a particular
function represent another level
of organization, the organ.

The
Heart
Organs
Organs are made up of different tissues
that work together to do a job.

Example: a heart is an
organ made of all four
tissues, this coral polyp
is an organ and a leaf is a
plant organ.
Other Organs
Different organs and
tissues working
together form an
organ system.

An organism may
have only a few
organ systems. The Circulatory
System
Organ Systems
An organ system is a group of
organs working together.

Example: Human organ systems include

circulatory, reproductive, digestive, nervous,
respiratory.

Plant organ system-roots, stems,leaves=

transport system.
Other Organ Systems
Organisms
Sum of all cells, tissues, organs and organ
systems makes an organism.
The organism itself represents the
highest level of organization.

If an organism is complex, it will

consist of trillions of cells grouped
into tissues, organs, and organ
systems.

If an organism is simple, it meets its

needs with a body made up of only a
few types of specialized cells.
Population

Ecosystem

Populations living together in one area.

Biosphere

up the biosphere.
