For me, teaching and learning are important elements in the curriculum because
without these two aspects, to educate effectively is a total hollow. In simple term, a
curriculum wouldn’t be made with purpose without the teaching and learning process.
These two aspects are both end purpose why a curriculum is produced or formulated.
Both of them are what the teachers and students do while pursuing the content of the
curriculum. Moreso, an effective teacher provides teachers, students, administrators
and community stakeholders with clear plans for achieving a quality education. Thus,
without the process of teaching and learning, curriculum will probably useless. All in all,
teaching and learning are key elements of curriculum which fuel for effective and quality
education.
3. Have your teacher in elementary, high school or college tauht you how to learn
on your own? Explain.
Yes, especially now in my college years. The day I started entering the institution
of BISU begins the ultimate challenge. I was challenged mentally. I was challenged to
learn on my own. As far as I remember, Ms. Palma indulged us to an activity called
“Micro Teaching” where individual’s capability to explain a topic by their own
understanding were tested. Without any doubts, this is really an effective strategy of
making your students learn independently. May times had I realized that it is really good
for a teacher to teach students learning on their own way to become more innovative,
resourceful and independent. Teachers are just facilitators in student learning thus they
don’t need to spoonfed everything. Moreover, independent learning were commonly
observed in college. Challenging students to learn on their own will probably prepare
them in the future. And with my experiences, I happened to adjust my learning styles
and even mold myself to become an independent learner.
4. When you become a teacher, would it be good if you teach your students learn
how to learn? Defend your answer.
Definitely yes! Without any doubts, it would be good to teach my students learn
how to learn so that my students can stand on their own and consider learning as a
process where they need to exert knowledge and effort in order to achieved effective
learning. I believed that individual learning is self-paced, self directed. This is about
applying a student-centered philiospy; the existentialism in particular which mold
students to learn independently. This philosophy can also be associated to Scaffolding
by Vygotsky which explain about giving assistance to a learner for the first time and
assess after how a learner can learn on their own without anymore the assistance of the
more knowledgeable other, teachers in particular. Teaching the student learn how to
learn on their own doesn’t mean letting them do the entire process. It just explains that
the teacher are just facilitator of the student that guides them to the ways/steps how to
learn independently.
