ENTRY BEHAVIOR

Brief Introduction

Tools are very much needed to have things accomplished without

these tools, much time, effort, and money are consumed in accomplishing a

certain task. Whether these tools are intended for a heavy duty job as to those

power tools or electrically driven equipment or for just a simple work done by

the hand tools, they both need maintenance and care for a longer service and

rewards us with so much goodness.

Let’s Understand [ Study the Concept]

Tools and equipment suffer a lot of wear and tear especially if they are
being used every day. Hence, it is important to maintain and care for them
regularly such as proper storage, systematic arrangement, and correct and
complete inventory. This will help increase the service life as well as the
performance of the tools and equipment.
Tool/ Equipment Storage - is the process of accumulating or
keeping tools/equipment for the future use.
Tool /Equipment Arrangement- is an action, process or results of
arranging tools/equipment in a certain place or area.
Tool /Equipment Inventory- is the complete list of tools /equipment in a
particular work shop or working area.
Now, in doing these things, it is always important to be aware of the
environment where storing, arranging, and taking inventory of our tools is
done..
Here are some possible questions to be answered later as we
go deeper in this module.

1. Why should tools and equipment be stored properly and

arranged systematically in their proper places?

2. How could proper storage and systematic tool arrangement

be implemented?

3. What are the advantages of tools and equipment inventory?

4. What will you do with the tools and equipment found defective

and non-functional?

Reasons for Storing and Arranging Tools and Equipment

Properly and Systematically

● It is for safety and health of the owner and the user as well.

● Improves appearance of a work shop and working area.

● Reduces wasted time- workers could easily find the tools needed
in that particular task.

● Save money- tools are intact so the owner will not buy for the lost tool.

● Keep workers moving efficiently-tools can be easily reached

and workers are free

of moving around the workplace.

● Keeps customers satisfied- service needed by the customer could

easily be done.

● Inspires employees- tidy workshops inspire the workers to

work diligently.
Ways on How to Store or Keep Tools and Equipment
Properly

1. Have a designated storage place, tool boxes, or cabinet for each kind of
tools.

2. Label the storage cabinet or place correctly for immediate finding.

3. Arrange and Store them systematically near the point of use.

4. Wash and dry them properly before storing to avoid rust.

5. Store or hang edge cutting tools properly when not in use with
sharp edge down.

6. Put frequently used tools and equipment in conveniently

accessible locations.

7. Make sure that the areas where you are storing the tools and equipment
are

clean, dry, not overcrowded, and well ventilated.

8. Store them properly after each use to keep them still in good condition

Advantages of Tool and Equipment Inventory

❖ Provides you with all the details of the tools and equipment that you
currently own.
❖ Assures you of their exact quantity and quality.

❖ You can determine what tool or equipment you are going to purchase
or replace.

❖ Informs you about the condition of your tools whether they are
functional or defective.

❖ Gives you a concrete idea or action of what you ought to do with

these tools

and equipment that are not in good shape and condition.

Good tool owner or user is efficient in listing and keeping up-to-date

records of both the old, defective or damaged, and newly bought tool or

equipment and must be entered to the inventory list of tools and equipment.

“The more routine schedule you make the inventory of your tools and

equipment, the better.”

Functional tools and equipment are those that are in good condition and

can perform their regular functions well. Whereas, those non- functional or

defective tools and equipment are those that could not able to perform their

regular functions due to their impaired or damaged parts. Using these

defective tools and equipment creates headache and irritation to the users,

lessens the concentration of the workers and affect their focus on the job,

decreases credibility of the workers using those defective tools and cause

serious or painful injury on their part.

This table shows some of the Defects of tools/equipment and the
Actions done.
