MAHARASHTRA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY MUMBAI

RULES FOR III NOVICE INTRA UNIVERSITY MOOT COURT

COMPETITION (“NIMCC”)

1) ELIGIBILITY FOR PARTICIPATION

All students of the undergraduate course of Maharashtra National Law


University Mumbai (“MNLU”) who have not previously participated in any
Novice, Intra or Challenger moot organized by the Moot Court Society
(“MCS”) are eligible to participate in NIMCC.

The MCS encourages and welcomes maximum student participation in this


competition.

2) REGISTRATION

2.1. Participants may register as speaker, researcher or both. Participants have to


register individually and NOT as a team.

2.2. Each participant shall register with the MCS. The last date of registration
for the 3rd NIMCC is 5th February 11:59 P.M.

Note: Registrations made beyond the prescribed time line will not be taken
into consideration at all.

The registration has to be done by filling out a google form.

In case of any withdrawal, the same can be done till 9th February 11:59 P.M
by sending an official mail to the MCS.

No participating student will be allowed to withdraw after the above


mentioned date and time.
3) MEMORIALS

3.1. Each participating student will be required to prepare Memorials for both
sides. All the participants are expected to research on their own for preparing
the Memorandum.

3.2. Both the Memorials shall consist of the following mandatory heads:

a) Cover Page
b) Table of Contents
c) List of Abbreviations
d) Index of Authorities
e) Statement of Jurisdiction
f) Statement of Facts (not exceeding [2] pages)
g) Issues Raised
h) Summary of Arguments (not exceeding [2] pages)
i) Body of Arguments
j) Prayer for Relief

3.3 A uniform system of 20th Bluebook citation should be adhered to


throughout the Memorial.

4) SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

4.1 The Memorials shall be typed on A4-sized paper, with the following
mandatory specifications:

a) Font Type: Times New Roman


b) Font Size: 12
c) 1.5 line Spacing

d) Margins: 1 inch on each side.

4.2 For Footnotes, the specifications shall be:

a) Font type: Times New Roman


b) Font Size: 10
c) Single Spacing
4.3 The Memorials must be fastened by stapling on the left-hand side of the pages.
No other type of binding is permitted.
#Note: 0.5 points may be deducted for violation of stipulated rules relating
to font, size, spacing, or binding etc.. However, this penalization is subject
to a cap of 05 points.
4.4 The following colour schemes shall be followed for the Cover Page of the
Memorials:
a) Applicant/Petitioner/Claimant/Appellant- Blue
b) Respondent- Red
4.5 No Memorial shall contain any Schedule, photographs, graphs, diagrams or
any other representation of like nature.
4.6 Footnotes shall only contain citations, or any other information relevant or
convenient to cite the authority.
#Note: Plagiarism of any kind is strictly prohibited. Any memorial found
to be violating this rule, shall invite complete disqualification of the team.
The mere fact that content has been cited doesn’t mean plagiarism is not
done. (See MCS Policy and University Policy for detailed guidelines)
4.7 The soft copy of the memorial has to be sent to the following email account:

[email protected] (NOT [email protected]) till 11:59 AM 14th


February, 2020.
Note:
a) 1 mark may be deducted for memorials submitted every hour after the said
time of submission. The time deduction is per side of memorial and not a
slab deduction.
b) Emails sent to the wrong email ID (non-existent or otherwise) or oversight
in attaching the document may not be considered.
c) The memorials must be preferably submitted in word format (Read Only).
4.8 The subject of the mail and the title of the document have to be the Team
Code allotted to the participants (e.g. “ABC123”).

4.9 The Memorials in the hard copies shall be submitted latest by 14nd February;
04:00 P.M to the MCS.
Note: Memorials submitted after the above mentioned Date and Time,
shall Not be entertained.
5) RESEARCHER’S TEST
5.1. All students appearing as researchers, will have to submit Memorials for
both the sides and undergo a researcher’s test.

5.2. The MCS will conduct a researcher’s test for the NIMCC on 14th February,
2020. The test will carry 50 marks.
5.3. All students appearing for the test, will constitute of the merit list as
researchers.
5.4. The question paper for test shall include both subjective and objective
questions based upon the moot problem, area of law and important cases.
5.5. The pool of researchers shall be determined on the basis of cumulative
marks of researchers test and total memorial marks.
6) ORAL ROUNDS
6.1. Participants shall argue cases against each other; the matching of
participants will be decided by a draw of lots conducted a day prior to the
commencement of the competition.
6.2. Time allotted to each speaker in one round- 10 Minutes. (including
Submissions and making Conclusions)
6.3. 2 Minutes for Rebuttal.
6.4. Each team shall argue for both the sides in two different rounds.
7) III NIMCC SCHEDULE:
a) Memorial Submission: 14th February
b) Draw of Lots: 14th February
c) Researcher’s Test: 14th February
d) Oral Rounds: 15th February

Note: The dates are contingent to the number of participants and may be
altered accordingly.
