The document discusses a service bulletin about insufficient hardening of camshafts in some engine models, which could cause damage and low oil pressure. The camshaft production process was improved and newer camshafts are marked with the hardening date.

The service bulletin was addressing cases where the camshaft lobe and high pressure pump roller tappet were damaged due to insufficient hardening of the camshaft in some engine models.

If a similar issue is found, the high pressure pumps should be removed and the camshaft lobe visually inspected through the pump bore. The region technical support should also be contacted and an engine failure report should be filled out and uploaded on the Techline call.

D6E Camshaft, insufficient hardening

NOTE!
Please pay attention to the safety instructions in the Operator's
and Service Manuals concerned.
This Service Bulletin is to be considered as technical information
only and is not subject to any reimbursement programs outside
normal warranty.

Cause
There have been some cases reported that the camshaft lobe and
high pressure pump roller tappet were damaged due to
insufficient hardening of the camshaft. This may cause abnormal
engine noise and low engine oil pressure.

Action
The camshaft production process has been improved and
camshafts after improvement have been marked with date of
hardening. (Fig2)
If similar symptom appears on a machine and inspection of
camshaft is required, remove high pressure pumps and visually
check the surface of camshaft lobe through the high pressure
pump bore. (Fig3)
NOTE!
High pressure pipe (VOE21302231) cannot be used again, once
it has been disassembled.
In case of field failure, contact to region technical support and
