uniform vertical magnetic field of strength 20 mT at a steady speed of 0.25 ms-1 as shown in
the diagram. The width of the field is 0.25 m.

(a) Calculate the maximum magnetic flux through the coil. (1 mark)

A horse-shoe magnet is placed on the top of an electronic pan balance, as shown. With no
current in the wire, the balance reads 74.87 g.

A current is passed through the wire. The wire passes along the axis exactly, and parallel to, the
poles of the magnet as shown in the plan view above. As this current is varied the following values
for the balance reading balance, mass, m and current, I, are recorded:
