Jenbacher: 1. General Conditions
Jenbacher: 1. General Conditions
Jenbacher: 1. General Conditions
1. General conditions:
1.1 The supplier confirms in principle that his product fulfils, without exception, the requirements specified in
the technical instruction (TI 1000-0125, TI 1000-1106, TI 1000-1107) relating to the application.
1.2 The supplier offers a product which already conforms to a certain test standard and represents no "first-
use" with regard to the qualitative and/or quantitative combination of base oil and additive package.
1.3 The supplier warrants that, especially in the case of first-use but also in every new commercial
application, the harmony (= purity, pattern of wear, corrosion protection) between oil, machine and
application is assessed by an engine study as described in Section 2 of this technical instruction.
1.4 The supplier warrants that continuous used-oil analyses are carried out both to provide risk-free operation
and diagnostic feedback on oil and machine condition and to optimise every individual oil-change interval.
These analyses should be made available to GE Jenbacher without delay.
Intervals of approx. 150 oil running hours between analyses (approx. 75 oil running hours for landfill gas)
are necessary until reproducible statistics are available. To ensure continuing analytical operational
monitoring or low-risk maximisation of the oil application time, it is recommended that used-oil analyses
are carried out at about
• 60%,
• 80% and
• 100%
of the statistically predictable oil lifetime.
Any unexpected side-effects are covered by the oil supplier’s product liability.
1.7 Under the conditions stated in this instruction, a product supplied by a competent lubricating oil supplier
which has not been specified by us can also be used during the GE Jenbacher warranty period.
However, GE Jenbacher cannot be held responsible for any unexpected problems that may arise with this
lubricating oil.
1.8 The oil supplier should attempt to proceed according to the relevant GE Jenbacher approval procedure.
The oil approval procedure can only be followed with customers’ prior knowledge and consent, and their
cooperation is therefore required. Normally, customers are offered an incentive for their cooperation. The
oil supplier must state in writing that he will fully indemnify the customer against any damage caused to
the engine module by the lubricating oil. The oil supplier will only be liable for engine breakdown and/or
increased wear, and for any resulting downtime. We advise the oil supplier to take out insurance covering
him against the breakdown of machinery for the duration of the oil approval procedure.
Where defects and damage are caused by lubricating oil, the burden of proof will rest with the oil supplier.
Any costs incurred by GE Jenbacher in connection with the oil approval (engine study, etc.), will be paid
by the oil supplier.
Plant operators who are willing to allow a field test usually demand a declaration from GE Jenbacher that
the field test is safe. In order to make this declaration, GE Jenbacher requires a guarantee that the oil
supplier will comply with Sections 1.1 to 1.7 above.
Cleanliness is assessed in a similar way to DIN 51361 part 2 and wear in a similar way to DIN 50320.
2.6 The engine study, as described in Section 2.5 of this technical instruction, need not be conducted in a
new commercial application which does not represent the first use of a lubricating oil product in
GE Jenbacher gas engines, provided that sufficient empirical data are available to justify the use of this
product in GE Jenbacher gas engines. In this case, the spark plugs, combustion chambers and valve
shafts should be assessed by endoscopy at the time of a scheduled inspection.
3. Remarks:
3.1 Good, as well as bad, experiences with the use of a lubricant on a particular engine type, or in a particular
application, are not always repeated in other engine types or applications
3.2 All lubricating oils added to the list of approved lubricating oils are monitored closely, until such time as
sufficient empirical data become available. If the results of the approval procedure prove to be unreliable,
approval will be withdrawn.
