II. Course Title : Basic Computer Education

III. Course description:

This course focuses on the understanding of concepts, the acquisition of basic skills and attitudes in information technology. It would educate students on how to
properly and effectively use the computer. It covers the basic knowledge on the basic office applications – word processing, spreadsheets and presentation, and the internet.

IV. Credit units : 3 Credit Units


V. No. of Contact Hours : 5 hours/week (2 hours lec and 3 hours lab)

VII. Rationale/Philosophy :
In line with the vision, mission and goals of the college and the objectives of the institute, students need to be equipped with IT skills and attitudes to be even more
competent in their field of specialization in this fast changing world. In this computer age, everyone must be computer literate and be competent in their skill since the
processes and systems of organizations today including schools are already computerized affecting our daily lives and profession. Knowledge in information technology will
not only make us globally competent but will help us adjust to the latest trends in the workplace and be more effective and efficient in providing quality service to
clients/customers.

VIII. Course Objectives


At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. Define and explain the different terminologies used in the subject
2. Identify the different computer devices and their functions
3. Master the various commands used in the different applications
4. Use e-mail and search the web using the different browsers
5. Work independently applying the skills learned

X. Grading System:

Midterm Grade = 1/3 Midterm Exam + 1/3 Class Standing + 1/3 Lab
Tentative FG = 1/3 Final Exam + 1/3 Class Standing + 1/3 Lab
Final Grade = 1/3 Midterm Grade + 2/3 TFG
