collection of waste
and sustainable solid waste management

Overview
Management of solid waste is the need of
the hour

An effective waste management system is

the way forward for solving the issues
raised by the waste in the environment
Aim
1 ● To address the solid waste management issues.

● To develop a real time system which supports

2
the government waste management

● system.
To create an online user friendly waste
3 ● Sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore
management system.

● To develop techniques for the collection,
4
segregation and utilization of the solid waste
● To develop a model for the segregation of bio
5
degradable and non-bio degradable
wastes.
Item 1

Analysis Item 2

A World Bank study in 2012 identifies

that the worlds ‘cities generated 1.3
billion tonnes of solid waste per year,
amounting to a footprint of 1.2
kilograms per person per day. With
rapid population growth and 2.2
urbanization, municipal waste Billion
1.3
generation is expected to rise to 2.2 Billion
billion tonnes by 2025.

● Populations near or close vicinity
of inadequate waste disposal sites

Until today collecting waste has been
done using static routes and schedules
where bins are collected in a everyday
basis or every week basis regardless if

Proposed Method they are full or not. Here we propose

an IoT based application which
consistently monitors the level of
waste in the smart bins using sensors.
The fill level is sent to the server via
the internet and stored in the cloud.
Based on the locality, the area will be
divided into sub-zones. Optimized
Schedules and routes are planned for
the collection of bins with the help of
the fill data available in the cloud.
This sort of smart plans significantly

Proposed Method reduces costs, emissions, road wear,

vehicle wear, noise pollution and
working hours. It may lead to 50% in
direct cost savings in waste logistics.
The data stored is used for further
processing and analysis
In our traditional scheduled waste
collection, the municipal council will
work only on the schedule adopted
initially. Even there is an overflow of
the bin, the collection might not

Outcome progress immediately. This may lead

to various issues. The overflow of the
Waste bin may cause a lot of
environmental hazards to both
mankind and animals. It may also
lead to soil contamination, Air
pollution,respiratory diseases.
The proposed work prevents the
overflow of bins by scheduling the
pick up based on the bin levels. This
may reduce the unwanted cost of fuel
for the waste bin collection trucks, the

Outcome emissions, road wear, vehicle wear,

noise pollution and working hours.
This may also keep the environmental
hazards at bay.
