Lesson Topic:
(Taken from the Utah Core Curriculum)
Standard 1-Objective 3: Describe how interactions among organisms and their
environment help shape ecosystems.
Analyze Learners:
(Describe in a paragraph. Refer to the ASSURE PowerPoint.)
This class consists of 23 high school students ages 14-18 who live in Rural Utah. Most
students come from lower to middle class families, many of whose parents are in
agricultural careers. 95% of my class identify as White with the other 5% come from
Latin decent. There are 2 ESL students and 1 student with a mild intellectual disability.
All have access to Wi-Fi and some types of device for online learning. They currently
understand what makes up an ecosystem, as well as the definitions for living
environments such as biospheres, biomes, niches, and habitats. I have found that many of
my students are visual or kinesthetic learners so they use of images, graphs, charts and
worksheets should be used.
State Objectives:
(Include ABCD in your objective. Refer to the ASSURE PowerPoint)
High school students in biology class will be able to use the vocabulary learned and
worksheets completed to take a quiz about ecosystems with a an accuracy of 90%.

Student performance will be evaluated based on their ability to complete the end of
section quiz with a 90% or higher. They will need to complete the Online worksheet and
interactions activity worksheet in order to accomplish the goal of getting 90% or higher
on the quiz. Those activities will prepare them to be able to answer each question on the
quiz. If they do not understand the concepts being taught, it will be evident in their
performance on the quiz. If the class does not accomplish the goal, I can use the other 2
worksheets to grade and check exactly what parts of the section needs to be revisited.
