Division
DAILY School Learning Area Science
LESSON Teacher Quarter First
PLAN Teaching July 11, 2019 Time Allotment:
Date 1 Hour

I. Objectives
A. Content Standard: Heat and temperature and the effects of heat in the body.
B. Performance Standard: Choose appropriate materials for specific function.
C. Learning Competency Differentiate between heat and temperature at the molecular level.
S8FE-1d-29

Specific Objectives:
At the end of an hour lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Describe the hotness and coldness of an object in terms of its
temperature.
2. Compare the amount of heat transferred in terms of change in
temperature.
D. Science Processes: Describing
E. Value Focus: Safety, Conservation
II. Content Heat and change in temperature

III. Learning Resources

A. Materials: Laptop, Monitor, Pictures, Videos, Power Point presentation
B. References:
Teacher’s Guide pages 25-27
Learner’s Materials pages 37-40
Additional Materials from the internet:

IV. Procedures

Elicit What is heat?

What are the modes of heat transfer?
Engage Show students sample objects showing different modes of heat transfer.
Ask them to identify which mode of heat transfer occurred on each
picture.
What will happen to temperature of the body if heat is transferred from/
to it?
Show Heat Transfer song video.

Explore Essential Question:

Are heat and temperature one and the same?

Perform Activity 1
Explaining Hotness or Coldness
Refer to LM pages 38-39
Discuss table 1 activity 1.
1. How close is your estimated value to the measured temperature of the
water?
2. Which container feels hottest? Which container feels”coolest”?
3. What do you think causes the difference in the hotness or coldness of
the water inside the containers?
4. In which container(s) is heat transfer taking place? What evidence
best supports your answer? Within this container, which absorbs heat?
Which gives off heat?
5. In which container was there the greatest amount of heat
transferred? What is the basis of your answer?
6. How are the amount of heat transferred and the change in
temperature of water related?
Explain Call out students in answering the guide questions. Correct any
misconceptions.
Elaborate Describe the amount of heat transferred in terms of change in
temperature.
Heat transfer and temperature change are related. In case of a thermos
bottle, to minimize heat transfer and sudden change in temperature, a
vacuum flask is placed between the glass and metal or plastic container.

Evaluate 1-2. If you place a piece of hot metal in cold water, the temperature
of the metal would______, while the temperature of the water would
_______.
3. _____ occurs when there is temperature change.
4. When heat is absorbed by an object, its temperature,
a. Increases
b. Decreases
c. Remains the same
d. Cannot be determined
5. Which container of identical amount of cold water would have the
highest amount of heat transfer?
a. container mix with cold water
b. container mix w/ tap water
c. container mix with hot water
d. the same amount of heat transfer for each container.
