All Questions carry equal marks
?????
3. (a) What the relation between free energy and equilibrium constant for any reac-
tion and explain.
(b) At equilibrium of any reaction what is the relation of free energy change and
equilibrium constant and explain. [16]
4. (a) Draw a potential energy diagram for an uncatalyzed reaction. Compare it with
a potential energy diagram for a catalyzed reaction. In each case indicate ∆H
for the activated complex.
(b) Discuss the various methods available for determining the order of reaction.
[16]
6. (a) Explain how does second law of thermodynamic lead to concept of entropy.
(b) A lump of copper having a mass of 5 KG at a temperature of 540 C is dropped in
a well insulated bucket containing 50 Kg of water at a temperature of 200C.If
the specific heats of copper &water are 0.418KJ/Kg 0 C and 4.4 KJ/Kg 0 C
respectively, calculate the change in entropy of the water and copper and
calculate the total entropy change resulting from the process. [16]

i. Internal energy of a gas does not depend upon its pressure and tempera-
ture.
ii. If f is negative , a reaction will definitely will be spontaneous .
(b) The properties of a closed system undergoes change following the relation PV
=4 and P isin bar and V in metre cube . Calculate the work done, when P
increases from 2.5 bar to 8 bar. [8+8]
8. (a) state the third law of thermodynamics and explain how it rationalize the
thermo chemical data [6]
