• Ask the students to justify their reason of why they chose to place their event in the position
they did along the rope.
• Use probing questions such as “ Can you please explain to me how you know that”

Leaning Intensions: In reading we are learning to order the events in a story

Content of Lesson:
A. Introduction (5 mins)
The teacher will introduce that they will continue to focus on the text, ‘Mr McGee Goes To Sea’ and
asks the students what they have learnt so far in the previous lessons when reading this text. Teacher
and students will read the learning intensions and success criteria. The teacher will explain the word,
‘order’ in relation to the alphabet and the word ‘event’ as a thing that happens
B. Development (10 mins)
The teacher and the students will engage in shared reading.

C. Consolidation and Practice (40 mins)

While the students sit in two lines the rope will be laid out in front of them and the teacher will ask
the students and explain where the beginning, middle and end of the rope is and relate this to the
story. The teacher will model to the students the activity by getting the class to help decide where the
first event goes. Then the teacher will call up a student one by one to have a go and to explain their
reason for their placement of the event story card. The teacher will use prompting questions and
feedback. When all the events are placed then the whole class will read the story again.
Catering for Diversity
Enabling – Use prompting questions to help students decide where to place their event story card.
Select event story card that comes next in the sequence and give this to the student to place
Extending – Let the students choose their own card or give them a card that is not next in the
sequence to make it more difficult.

C. Closure (5 mins)
Review the learning intention and success criteria. Ask students what they learnt.
