Characterization
Victor Frankenstein: He is having the worst times of his life, he is
getting crazy after everything is happening to him, after he´s
creation is getting intelligence and killing every near person on
his life.
Monster: He is more intelligent and have that constant feeling of
revenge against victor, and he is being consumed by the anger.
Elizabeth: Shows that she is really in to victor, that she cares on
him.
Alphonse: He supports his son Victor and tries to help him with
whatever he can.
Henry Clerval: A good friend of victor, who supports him on his
goals.
Chapter 18-23
After the talk between the monster and Victor, Victor starts to
thinking about his new creation of a female creature. He starts to
have some doubts about agreeing to the monster’s request of a
partner. He realizes that he will need to travel to England, to
gather more information. Victor still is being followed by guilt over
the deaths of William and Justine, is now horrified by the task in
he is about to do and asks him if his impending marriage to
Elizabeth the source of his “melancholy”. Victor assures that
Elizabeth is the only happiness in his life. In a attempt to rise
Victors spirits, Alphonse suggests that they celebrate the
marriage immediately. But Victor says no, unwilling to marry
Elizabeth until he finished his obligation with the monster. So, he
asks Alphonse if he can first travel to England and Alphonse
consents. Victor and Alphonse arrange a two-year tour. After for a
while, the reach London. Victor and Henry journey through
England and Scotland, but victor grows impatient to start with his
work and free himself of his bond to the monster. Victors urges
Henry to stay while Victor goes on a tour of Scotland. Henry
consents and Victor departs for a remote, desolate island to
complete his project. Quickly setting up a laboratory in a small
shack, Victor devotes many hours to working on his new creature.
He often has trouble continuing his work because of how
unsatisfying, even grotesque the product of his labor will be, he
got traumatized with the last experience. While working one
night, Victor starts to think about what might happen after he
finishes his creation. He imagines that the monster wouldn’t
follow the deal they had, or that the new female and the monster
would have childrenas creating a “race of devils”. While thinking
on this, victor likes up to see the monster grinning at him through
the window. Victor destroys his work in progress. The monster
gets angry at victor for breaking his promise, and at the prospect
of his own continued solitude. He curses and vows revenge, then
departs, swearing that he will be with Victor on his wedding night.
The following night, Victors receives a letter from Henry,
suggesting that they continue their travels. Before he leaves his
shack, Victor cleans and packs everything and the remains of the
second creature. He rows out onto the ocean and throws
everything to the ocean, allowing him to rest in the boat. He got
some troubles because of the wind in the ocean, but he could
return to land but he reaches shore near a town. When he lands,
a group of townspeople greet him rudely, telling him that he is
under suspicion for a murder discovered the previous night. After
confronting Victor, the townspeople take him to Mr. Kirwin, the
town magistrate. Victor hears witnesses testify against him,
saying that they found the body of a man along the beach the
previous night and that just before finding the body, they saw a
boat in the water that was said that was the boat of victor. Mr.
Kirwin decides to take Victor to see the body of the dead man.
When Victor sees the body, he does react with horror, for the
victim is Henry Clerval, with the black marks of the monster’s
hands around his neck. Victor suffers a long illness. Victor remains
ill for two months. He finds himself in prison. The magistrate, now
compassionate and much more sympathetic than before, visits
him in is cell. He tells him that he has a visitor, and for a moment
victor thought that was the monster but was his father who
rushed form Geneva to see him. On their way home, father and
son stopped on Paris, where Victor receives a letter from
Elizabeth. The letter reminds him of the monsters threat that he
will be with victor on his wedding night. He thinks that the
monster intends to attack him an he will fight back. Then Victor
and his father arrive home and begin planning the wedding. As
the wedding day approaches, Victor grows more and more
nervous about his impending confrontation with the monster.
Finally, the wedding takes place, and victor and Elizabeth depart
for a family cottage to spend the night. Victor and Elizabeth walk
around the grounds, but victor can think of nothing but the
monster’s imminent arrival. He tells Elizabeth to retire for the
night. And he began to search for the monster in the house, when
suddenly he hears Elizabeth scream and realizes that it was never
his death that the monster had been intending this night. The
monster was looking for Elizabeth death. Victor was consumed by
Elizabeth’s death. He went to his father and tell him the really bad
news. Shocked by the tragic end of Elizabeth, his father dies a few
days later. Victor tries to convince a magistrate of Geneva that an
unnatural monster is responsible for the death of Elizabet, but he
didn’t believe him. Victor is focus know on finding and destroying
the monster.
