“All Those Little Moments Are Every Reason Why I'm Homesick”
“Homesick” by Kane Brown conveys his emotions about his wife with the lyrics.
Throughout the song, he sings about little things in regards to his wife that he misses when he
cannot be with her. This song was created in 2018. The first debut music video was released
September 20th and the second one was released September 25th. “Homesick" by Kane Brown
provides two different music videos regarding his song; however, the first version is targeted
towards the military and their families, and the second version is targeted towards his wife and a
In Kane Brown’s first version of “Homesick”, he aims this video towards members and
families in the military. While the lyrics between the two videos are the same, the message
conveyed in this one differs from the other music video. The lyric, “If home is where the heart is
I'm homesick for you” is one that hits hard in this version. Since these military members are
deployed, they are far away from their physical home or house. This lyric indicates that home
isn’t something physical, but an emotional connection with their loved one. They are homesick
for a person versus a building. There are many things those in the military miss out on due to
being deployed.

Throughout the first version of this song, the video features many clips of reunions of
families with their military members. These videos are tear jerking because the emotions and
very real and raw. One clip that is very important to the storyline of missing someone is when a
man is reunited with his family and his newborn. He is very emotional when meeting them, you
can understand that this is the first time he is meeting his child, realizing he didn’t get to be there
for the birth. This video switches between home videos, and Kane sitting on a chair in front of
The second version of Kane’s song “Homesick”, is targeted towards his own feelings
towards his wife. The video starts out by filming of a tour bus traveling. After this, a short clip is
included of his wife and himself backstage, enjoying their time together joking around and
dancing. The lyrics that are being sung during this is, “Dancing in the kitchen, You singing my
favorite songs, Swinging on the front porch, Just laughing at the dogs, Now you swear you love
me more, When you're whispering goodnight”. These things that Kane describes is things he
loves about his wife and actions she does. He misses these when he cannot be with her. The
This version makes it clear it is his wife that he is missing. One of the clips added show
Kane sitting alone in the airport on his cell phone. This whole video is edited into black and
white instead of color. I think they want the viewers to interpret this version as him feeling alone
when cannot be with her. The lyric, “It's like half of me is missing, Heaven knows it”, describes
The rhetorical appeal between the two versions of the video is pathos. While both videos
use different context to convey the message, they are both emotional connections shown. The
first version shows real clips of reunions which can pull on the heart strings of viewers. Many

people will have this experience if they have a loved one in the military who has been deployed.
This can be targeted to any age, since children can be affected by a mother, father or siblings
being deployed. As well as a wife or husband can be affected by deployment. The second version
of the music video uses pathos by combining the lyrics and video clips of his wife. This one is
more of a general experience to those missing someone. While not everyone has someone in the
military, most people have someone they love that they have missed and couldn’t be with at
some point. The first video’s audience is targeted towards military members and family. The
second video does not have a specific audience. It is intended for anyone who loves someone and
While both of these videos have slightly different targeted audiences, there is no doubt
the message being interpreted is the same. Including the military and home videos made this
song as popular as it is today. As the title states, “All Those Little Moments Are Every Reason
Why I'm Homesick” shows that we all have little special moments in our lives with our loved
ones that does indeed, make us homesick. Kane was able to create two music videos that target
