The discussion covers tips for installing LED lights on vehicles not originally equipped with them, factors to consider when choosing an LED light, and causes for error codes reappearing after initially being fixed.

Check that wiring and resistances are correct, choose an LED from a reputable manufacturer, and be prepared to reverse coding changes or clear errors if issues reappear.

Choose an LED that uses a reputable manufacturer like CREE, Phillips or Seoul Semiconductor as lower-priced options may cause issues. Also consider the vehicle make/model and specific bulb location being replaced.

^^^^ OK - the fault time on your error report is 2017-09-15 14:31:10. The time of your last adaptation
change was 2017-09-15 14:29.

But notice that the fault frequency counter (Fehlerhäufigkeitszähler?) is 1. This might be because you
took the scan immediately after you made the adaptation changes. Make another scan and if the fault
frequency is still 1, try clearing the error. If that doesn't work, or if the frequency counter is greater than
Posts: 1,090 1, reverse the last two changes and clear the fault.

Don I put back the halogen bulb in the position/brake light slot, coded back to halogen and now
everything is perfect, error free, and Front Assist works.
Do you know a way to install this famous LED without warnings, without other errors, and with the
dimming function working?

I can't even access the security 31347 in Central Electrics...
Is there anyway I can still do any of these?

All my LED have resistors, but I replaced one of the license plate LED for a camera + LED module
and I think the resistance is not high enough...

Hello Don.
Spoke with Osram again and they confirmed the LED dims through PWM.
Having said that, should the light be coded as Halogen? If yes, how could I avoid the front assist error
and warning since the previous tricks didn't work too well.
In the meantime, I returned the LEDs and bought them again (hoping they were defective).

^^^^ hmm............ not sure that I can add anything more than what I've already suggested. Perhaps it's
the fact that your car is a Skoda (I'm more familiar with VW mk7 Golf)? I'd be surprised if your new
LEDs were any different (unlikely for both the original Osram lamps to be defective).
The only suggestion that hasn't been tried yet is to add a load resistor in parallel with the LEDs and
leave the Lasttyp channel as a incandescent setting. The additional electrical load from the resistor
should fool the Central electric module into believing that the old incandescent lamp is still connected -
hopefully the extra current drawn from the control module pin will be sufficient to stop the error

Hope this helps!

Mark
Mark: hello. So what you need to do is to first identify the "Leuchte-Set" for the lamp base that you
have retrofitted LEDs using the table below
"LEUCHTE_SET" name > FUNCTION - LOCATION
Leuchte16BLK SLB35BLK SL KC9 > Indicator rear left (inside) (LED rear lights)
Leuchte17TFL R BLK SRB3TFL R BLK SR KC3 > Indicator rear right (inside) (LED rear lights)
Leuchte18BLK HLA60 > Indicator rear left (outside) (taillights)
Leuchte19BLK HRC31 > Indicator rear right (outside) (taillights)
Leuchte20BR LA71 > Parking light / brake light, rear left (tail lights)
Leuchte21BR RC8 > Parking light / brake light, rear right (tail lights)
Leuchte22BR MA57 > Brake light, rear center (third stop light)
Leuchte23SL HLC10 > Parking light, rear left inside (taillights)
Leuchte24SL HRA65 > Parking light, rear right inside (taillights)
Leuchte25KZL HA59 > License plate light
Leuchte26NSL LA72 > Rear fog light Rear left inside (taillights)
Leuchte27NSL RC6 > Stand lights behind both inside (LED taillights)
Leuchte28RFL LC11 > Reversing light, rear left inside (taillights)
Leuchte29RFL RA64 > Reversing light, rear right inside (taillights)
Then for the Leuchte-set, you need to change the setting in the adaptation channel with the descriptor
Lasttyp to an appropriate LED value from the table that I posted previously. Here's some examples
For the left outer brake light, the Leuchte-set is Leuchte20BR LA71 and an appropriate LED setting
is 34 - LED Bremsleuchten. If this brake light is a combined brake/indicator,as for NAR models in
USA, then the more appropriate setting is 35 kombinierte LED Blink-Bremsleuchten
For the left turn signal, the Leuchte-set is Leuchte18BLK HLA60 and an appropriate LED setting is
38 - LED Blinkleuchten
For the left parking light, the Leuchte-set is Leuchte23SL HLC10. There isn't a specific LED setting
for this function, but many factory LED fittings use 34 - LED Bremsleuchten (also)
Similarly for the reverse light, there isn't a specific setting. But you could try a general LED setting
like 40 allgemeine LED

Don
PS: Of course you will need to enter the magic number 31347 before you attempt to make changes

I actually just posted almost the same question. I did the 4 brake light mod and swapped the stock

I have one question about Lasttyp and Dimmwert. I had to make some changes to use fogs with high
beam together, is working fine but still I`m wondering why on Leuchte2SL LED Tagfahrlichtmodul
Signal I have Dimmwert CD 100 and on Leuchte4TFL LED Tagfahrlichtmodul Versorgung I have
Dimmwert CD 127. My car being full led shouldn`t be Dimmwert CD 127 on LED
Tagfahrlichtmodul Signal too? These are default settings on my car, I only activated a D alpha
channel for Fernlicht rechts/links. edit: I don`t have a golf but I`m posting here this question because
I`m seeing a much larger activity here. Thank you.

Moderator vcodryn: I don't have a definitive answer for you - perhaps someone else here does. However, my guess
is that it really depends on how the power supply arrangements are designed for the different Lasttyp
settings.
When a particular Lasttyp setting is applied, it determines the frequency of Pulse Width Modulation
(PWM) process and the Dimmwert value determines the "duty cycle" (i.e. the ratio of the ON time and
the OFF time) and therefor the effective DC voltage of the waveform. In general, although not always,
incandescent Lasttyp settings have a PWM frequency of 100 Hz and LED Lasttyp settings use 200 Hz
The fact that some Lasttyp settings allow a maximum Dimmwert setting of 127 doesn't mean (IMO)

Posts: 1,090 that the lamp is brighter than those settings that allow a maximum Dimmwert value of 100. My
uninformed view is that ALL lastyyp settings allow the entire range of dimming levels from 0 volts to
Karma: 37 full battery voltage applied to the lamp. It's just that some settings allow for 127 different shades of
Karma Rank: illumination while others allow 100 - between complete dimming to full brightness. But really, I doubt
whether the naked eye can distinguish between a variance of one in 127 different shades - and my
experience is that there is very little difference in illumination level above a value of 100 (for those
settings that allow 127 max).
Don
PS: Here is a picture of the PWM waveform for an LED Lasttyp setting (I forget which one) and a
Dimmwert setting of 50 (notice that notwithstanding the value 50, the actual duty cycle is 60%)

Hello, I was hoping to get some help with this problem I'm having

I just swapped over to LED tails and pulled the wiring harness for the turn signal...finally got
everything to work, execpt that whenever I signal, on the cluster the interval is very fast... If I do the
convinience signaling, the tail lights will flash 5 times (that's what I have it set at) but in the cluster it
must be at least 10-15 times... The only time the blinkers act normal in the cluster is when I have the

The car is NAR (I'm from Canada), tail lights are european and harness I used is from bec auto parts
so I used his coding instructions. I'm sure that the app that I used accidentally for program led tails via
wires to BCM definitely changed something...

Ok so I replaced the side marker bulb, now the only faults remaining are left/right rear turn signal bulb
2... Any ideas?

Edit: after clearing the codes, I used the led coding app in obdeleven to set it back to BULB. Re did
the coding, everything works, and after clearing the codes, i went for a drive and still got the left rear
side marker error, but not the other 3 that are in the picture above... I'm lost as to what is going on

I am fairly certain the following app pictured above screwed up my coding somewhere along the
way...as mentioned, I accidentally used this app, even though I never used the European harness and
never pulled wires to the BCM... I used a harness similar to DAP's harness (BEC auto parts)

Even after using the app the second time to revert the settings from LED back to BULB (thinking this
would set everything back to stock), it didn't... the hyperflash remains
so at this point I'm thinking it might actually be the lights that are the problem... but even after re
installing the original lights, and even pulling one of the terminals to reset the battery, the hyperflash
persists

So, my current status is I have the proper coding done for the harness that I have and my taillights
function as they should... What I need now is to know what channels the app pictured above changes...
if I know the channels that the app above changes, I can work backwards by manually going into each

channel and seeing what changes have been made and hopefully reverting them back to stock (other
then channels which I know have been changed by me for the LED taillights to function properly)

Everything was set to 0 and not active in each box, and my coding instructions never mentioned to
touch these channels and the OBD app must've changed the settings... long story short I found the
coding on a german website for the EURO harness that goes to the BCM...even though channel 18 and
19 don't control the amber turn signal with the harness that I have, it does control both outer tail lights
as the turn signal.... hence why lasttyp 18/19 is not active, BUT, I still needed to set the parameters in
the red and yellow boxes respectively.... I followed the euro coding guide from the german website...
and it turns out the DIMMWERT AB 18/19 was the solution... turned it from 0 to 100 and now no
more hyperflash... which I suppose makes sense, since the bcm now thinks the outer tail lights are
drawing current when signalling, even though they are not active as the amber turn is active in a
different channel

Anyone found which is the correct leuchte for the front drl/parking light? I have a Golf mk7.

Then, i changed the reverse lights with led lights, but i had to change the coding from "40 allemeine
LED" to "43 allemeine LED". No idea what changed, but with the "40 allemeine LED" i had a bulb
out error in the module faults code, not in the car display, only in the module. No idea why, but for
now with "43 allemeine LED" the error is gone.

Hi Don

I’ve recently retrofitted GTI lights into my MK7 Golf TDI using the DAP harness (I’m from the UK)

problem as me so I’ll give his solution a go. If you had any ideas about the fog light that’d be greatly
appreciated!

Hello all,

under Central Electrics => Adaption, what Channel are you entering to access these lighting menu's?

Are they available for all VAG OBDeleven vehicles?

Karma: 37 If your car was built on a MQB platform, then almost certainly the exterior lights for the vehicle will be
Karma Rank: controlled by a series of "Leuchte-sets" which reside in the Central electrics module @ address hex09.

There are 35 (or in some cars, 34) x Leuchte-sets in these modules - and each Leuchte-set is dedicated
to a particular lamp on the car's exterior. Each Leuchte-set has 19 x adaptation channels (so, 665 x
Leuchte-channels in total) and the structure of each Leuchte-set is exactly the same.

ALL reputable diagnostic cables (read - VCP, VCDS, OBD11) can access these Leuchte-sets
here's a very brief synopsis of how to read a Leuchte-set:

note: column 1 was for VCDS - but the other columns apply to ALL diagnostic cables
note 2:since I first made the picture above, I have discovered the purposed of column 3: This is a short-
hand descriptor of the intended purpose of the Leuchte-set (in German, of course). In the example TFL
refers to TagFahrLicht which is translated to Daytime Running Lights

note 3: since I first made the picture above, I have discovered the purposed of column 8: the number in
this column relates to the same number in the "lighting configuration" channels. There are an equal
number of lighting configuration channels in the hex09 module - so each Leuchte-set has a twin
"config-set".

Hi Don
Thank you very much for this! Once i fixed the wiring issue, the rear fog was on all the time! Would
only switch off with the side lights off, I figured out which channel the rear fog was on I managed to
have a play around and got it to work on the switch, had it set to come on with the side lights for some
strange reason! All good now! And for the indicators I had to set something to not active on the 18/19
channels!
