1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Applicator Qualifications: Applicator shall be experienced in applying the same


or similar materials.

B. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with applicable codes, regulations,


ordinances, and laws regarding use and application of products that contain
volatile organic compounds (VOC).

C. Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques


and application workmanship.

1. Finish areas designated by Architect.


2. Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship is approved by
Architect.
3. Rebuild mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

1.6 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS

A. Pre-Installation Conference: Prior to beginning work, convene a conference to


review conditions, installation procedures, schedules and coordination with
other work.

B. Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Deliver materials to project site in original, factory-sealed, unopened containers


bearing manufacturer's name and label intact and legible with following
information.
1. Name of material.
2. Manufacturer's stock number and date of manufacture .

B. Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-
based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having
jurisdiction.

1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Do not apply when surface temperature or weather conditions conflict with


manufacturer's published requirements.

B. Coordinate waterproofing work with other trades.

C. Keep flammable products away from spark or flame. Do not allow the use of
spark producing equipment during application and until all vapors have
dissipated. Post "NO SMOKING" signs.

D. Maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition, removing empty containers,
rags, and rubbish daily from the site.

1.9 SEQUENCING

A. Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to
prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.10 WARRANTY

A. Warranty: Provide manufacturer's standard limited material warranty.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

A. Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of


Section 01 60 00 - Product Requirements.

2.2 DAMPPROOFING

A. Bitumen Sheet: For waterproofing top of concrete block walls, beneath pre-
cast concrete coping.

B. Polythene sheet: For waterproofing under slabs, provide polythene, laid into
lap edges to a minimum of 300mm. Gauge 250mm microns and thickness
1000 gauge.

2.3 WATERPROOFING

A. Procedure for G.R.P. lining of all interior walls slabs columns to concrete
water tanks (excluding inner slab softies).
1. Surface preparation:
- Sweep blast the surface to remove any previous water proof
material and latence and provide a key for the fiberglass.
- Vacuum clean the tank to remove all sand and waste.
- Provide a polyester mortar fillet around all sharp corners.
2. Lining
- Once the surface prepared, the surface will be brushed with a low
viscosity alkali resistant polyester-resin to provide a bond with
subsequent layers. This will be followed by the applications of
polyester paste to fill an pores.
- Thickness of 500 microns.
- Total thickness will be minimum of 2000 microns.

2.4 MATERIALS

B. Characteristics of the "SBS" elastomeric bitumen used in the manufacturing of


the waterproofing membrane.

C. Insulation Boards - 50mm thick extruded closed cell polystyrene insulation


boards (density 32 kg/m3) loosely laid over water proofing membrane.

D. Filter Layer - One layer of mat filter membrane as a protective and drainage
layer.

E. Joint Sealant Mastic - The mastic shall be plasto-elastic/rubber-bitumen base


such as (plastijoint mastic or igas mastic torch heared and flattened in order to
obtain a perfect adhesion to joint's side.

F. Basement Wateproofing Treatment

1. Water proofing treatment of horizontal areas below raft.


a. The water proofing treatment of the horizontal area shall consist
of two layers of approved membrane 4mm SBS torched on
water proofing membrane reinforced with 180 gr/m2 of unwoven
polyester fully bonded over one coat of approved primer applied
at rate of 0.3 liter per m2 to blinding concrete.
b. The horizontal water proofing treatment shall be protected with
50mm thick protection screed laid over one layer of polythene
sheet and protection board 3.2 thick.

2. The water proofing treatment of vertical areas of basement.


c. The water proofing treatment of the vertical area shall consist of
approved membrane 4mm SBS torched on water proofing
membrane reinforced with 180 gr / m2 of unwoven polyester
bonded to gunited surface over one coat of approved primer
applied to gunited surface at rate of 0.4 liter/m2.
d. The vertical water proofing shall be protected with 3.2mm thick
asphalted protection board.

G. Protection Board to Basement and Vertical Faces - All vertical sub-structure


water proofing shall be protected with 6mm asphalted protection board fixed by
spot bond torching to water proofing membrane.

H. Water Proofing Treatment of Rood Terraces - Apply layer of approved


membrane 4mm reinforced with 180 gr/m2 of composite polyester over one coat
of approved primer applied to sloping screed at a rate of 0.3 kg/m2. Lay on layer
of asphalted protection board 3mm thick prior to tiling.

I. GENERAL

- Only an approved specialized sub-contractor having at least ten years


experience in the water proofing works shall be allowed to carry out the
water proofing and roofing system required for the works in accordance
with the drawings bill of quantities and as directed by the engineer a ten
(10) years guarantee for material and workmanship for the complete
water proofing system is to be submitted by the specialized water
proofing contractor.

J. BITUKOTE BITUMEN PAINT

1. Description:
- Bitukote Black Bitumen Paint (solvent) is a blend of high quality
bitumen and solvents, ready for application on concrete or cement
bound structures as permanent waterproofing and damp proofing
barrier. It is also used on mental corrosion protection.
2. Advantages:
- Cold applied and easy to apply
- Excellent adhesion to vertical and horizontal surfaces
- Single component
- Seamless/joint free
3. Uses:
- Bitukote Black Bitumen Paint (solvent) is used as waterproofing
and damp proofing below ground concrete, block work and pipes
prior to back filling. It cam also be used as curing compound for
fresh concrete substrates.
4. Application Instructions:
- Bitukote Black Bitumen Paint (solvent) shall be applied to clean
surfaces using brush, roller or squeegee. All surfaces must be
sound, stable and with an even finish and free from dirt, dust,
loose debris, grease etc. It may be applied to damp surfaces but
not water logged surfaces. Hot and very dry or porous surfaces
should be dampened with a priming coat before application. First
coat must be dry before subsequent coats. It can be used a
curing compound on green concrete.

6. Storage:
- Bitukote Black Bitumen Paint (solvent) shall be stored under
cover, away from direct sunlight and protected. Shelf lift is up to
24 months when stored as above in unopened packing. Failure to
comply with the recommended storage conditions may result in
premature deterioration of the product. It is flammable product,
keep away from sources of heat and flame.
7. Parcking:
- Bitukote Black Bitumen Paint (solvent) is available in 4lit, 20lit &
200 litre drum.
8. Cleaning:
- Clean tools with white spirit or turpentine.

9. General Information:
- The information provided on this data sheet is general advice
only. User should ensure the suitability of the product. Technical
consultancy is available to ensure optimum specification and
performance.
10. Health & Safety:
- As with all bitumen products caution should be exercised.
Protective clothing such as gloves and goggles should be worn.
Treat any splashes to the skin or eyes with fresh water
immediately. Should any of the products be accidentally
swallowed, do not induce vomiting but call for medical help
immediately. Ensure the container is available for medical
attendant to examine any relevant instructions and contents
details.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Before work is started, applicator shall thoroughly examine all surfaces


for any deficiencies.

B. Notify Architect in writing of any defects.

3.2 SURFACE PREPARATION

A. Surface should be free of oil, grease, dirt, laitance and loose material.

B. Repair all cracks and holes as recommended by Manufacturer, before


applying surface coating.

3.3 APPLICATION

A. Comply with manufacturer recommendations and approved submittals.


Mix as recommended by manufacturer.

B. For fabric reinforced applications, apply first coat. Apply reinforcing fabric
over the wet coating, overlapping all edges. Smooth out all wrinkles, to
ensure there is no trapped air beneath fabric. Apply second coat.
