Pahiram Villa
The story entitled Pahiram that written by Annie Pacana- Lumbao helped me to identify
all the obligations that portrayed in the story. For the first character in the movie, it was Nanay
who was the Debtor, because she was the one who borrowed money from the vendor of a
convenient a store, and that vendor named Aling Chona. Aside from the vendor, she has also an
obligation to the sewer of their place. It considers as the obligation to do positive personal
obligation because it was up to her if she wants to return the money/product that she borrowed.
There is an obligation between Nanay, Aling Chona and Aling Simang, from the sources of
obligations it is considers as contracts, because based on the story that I read even if there was no
properly contract between them and there was no formal agreement she was still has obligation
to return the debt that she needs to return. Aling Chona and Aling Simang agree to her because
they really trusted Nanay. Second character was Aling Chona who both Debtor and Creditor.
First she was the debtor because based on the story she was also like the two child of Nanay who
was borrowing money to other people, but the difference between them was Aling Chona
borrowed in bank for her to survive her business. Also the difference between them was their
object prestation that is to give real obligation, because she has a duty to perform a return for the
right that she exercises. It was her obligation to give back or to pay all the money that she
borrowed from the bank. She has obligation because they have contracts, they have formal
agreement wherein if she will not comply her obligation, the bank will have rights to demand
her. She was also considers as a Creditor whose active subject obligee. She really trusts Nanay in
order they don’t have formal contracts, she just has only a list of all the debt of her customers.
Third character was Mang Karding, one of example of a being good Debtor. It also like Aling
Chona who had obligation to give real obligation, because he was obliged to pay all his debts to
their cooperatives. It was the cooperatives of the farmers wherein they automatically had
contracts. It says that there was owner of a large farm in their place, that Mang Karding really
owes him. The money that Mang Karding borrowed from Mr. Alegro helped him to plant many
grains. The last character of this story was Aling Simang who can consider as a debtor and
creditor. She was one of Aling Chona and Mang Karding who are the good debtors, and being
good debtors it helped them to become a successful. They put the money that they owe in a good
way and return it immediately. They know how to comply the contracts that they agreed.
The benefits of Obligations, it helps them in case of there has an emergency that they
really need a money there was a creditor that will help them to comply they needs. It is really
depend on the creditor what she/he wants to oblige, if she/he trusts the person or if she/he really
wants to make sure that they will pay, make a contract so that they will have a formal agreement.
The more creditors the more debtors will have in our country. Many people will have a lot of
debts because we have many creditors.
I learned in this story was very simple yet very important to all of us. Pay back all the
debts that you had and comply it in the agreement date that you had with your creditor. As you
can see it was not really bad to have debts as far as you know how to deal with it. Having debt
will also teach you how to be a smart and what’s the really important. It is for you on where your
money goes, like for example the three debtors became successful because the debts that they
had, put it in a good thing and they did not just spend it for nothing. Being a good debtor will
help you, because other people most especially your creditor will trust you because you know
how to follow your agreements. This is not just money, but also a thing that you borrowed to
another people and you promise that you will return it. In this kind of scenario it really develops
a big trust of one another. It really important to us that we know how to return the things that we
borrowed so that they will allow us to borrow again. This was a nice story even if it was simple
because many people will learn and realize some point of their life. I learned also that you can be
a practical and learn how to sacrifice some things because like Aling Simang and Mang Karding
sacrifice to have debts and the return of their good sacrifices is great reward in their life. We
need some sacrifices for us to become a successful. So for me, it is also a good thing if we live
without debts. It is a good exercise most of all to a young people like us. For me it means that
you know how you manage your money and you know how to plan for the bigger purchases and
making sure that you are using your money for the things that matter you most.
