Manual Methods
All carts and trolleys need to be kept cleaned daily and stored in a locked, dry, well-ventilated area when
not in use. A thorough cleaning may be done once a week. The wheels may be oiled during this cleaning.
Manual Methods
This method of cleaning relies on the force exerted by a human with no aid from mechanical or
electronic equipment.
Sweeping.
Applied in order to collect litter and dust on a floor surface when it is too rough for a dust mop. The type
of area and dirt to be cleaned but in most wide space a push broom will be most efficient to cover the
whole area easier. Broom appropriate for the area you wish to cover.

1. Using only one direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise) begins sweeping at the farthest corner
of the room and, move towards the center.
2. Sweep dirt and dust at the shortest distance into the dust pan to avoid dust from “flying”. Avoid
shaking the broom when removing excess dust/dirt from it.
3. Brush all dirt into the dustpan and then move the dustpan back a couple of inches. Repeat the
last step until all dirt is cleaned.
After
1. Clean all equipment, tools used in sweeping the floor. It is best to hang brooms and dustpan
when storing it.
Dusting.
Dust is all around us and due to its lightness, it maybe blowing in the air or captured in one’s clothes
that later settles on fixed surfaces especially in a confined room. Dusting as a means of removing dust
requires a systematic approach to cover a given area with efficiency & ease.
Tool and Material: Lint-free cloth or regular duster, dusting solution
Procedure:
Dump dusting.
This serves as the most common and effective means of cleaning in hotels in order to avoid further
circulation of dust and surfaces can be wiped as well as dusted altogether, removing any sticky or dirty
marks as the same time. Preferably, a mildly damp lint-free cloth maybe used to avoid leaving water
marks and smears.

1. Identify the type of dirt/dust and surface texture before the commencement of work so that you
can perform the correct procedure of dusting the surface.
2. Use the correct dusting tools in cleaning the following surfaces:
a. Dusting corner
- Use whisk brush for cleaning corners.
b. Dusting ornaments
- Use static duster in dusting ornaments
- Stabilize the ornaments by gently pressing on the item with your finger.
- Items must be lifted to wipe the base
c. Dusting wooden furniture
- Use a clean barely damp cloth, turn it often to remove dust from surface
- Use whisk brushes in removing dust from corners of furniture.
- Use as soft brush to remove dust on top of wooden furniture to avoid scratches.
- Spray wood polish on dusting cloth and wipe it on the wooden furniture.
After
Clean all equipment and tools after using them. Be sure to store them in the right place afterward
Mopping.
The procedure is a preferred method for removing dust and trash from floors as part of daily cleaning
schedule or as preparation for wet cleaning the floor. These dirt needs to be removed daily in order not
to accumulate that could stain the finishing and shine of the flooring in the long run.
Tools and Material: mop, hand gloves, hairnet whisk brush putty knife, trash can

(Work from the sides of the room to the center. Turn at the end of the pass and dust mop in the
opposite direction. Overlap about 10 inches).
- Move furniture as you dust mop and replace it in its correct position.
- Push the dust mop straight ahead. (avoid lifting the mop from the floor or moving it
backward during the dust mopping procedure).
- Hold the mop handle at approximately a 15-degree angle.
- Dust mop carefully around equipment.
2. Pick up the trash and dirt
- Use a dustpan and broom to sweep up accumulated trash.
- Empty this into a trash chute or trash container.
After
Spot mopping
Done when something is spilled on the floor which helps in the preservation of floor surface. This
prevents the spilled item penetrate the surface which could be hardly removed later on without
damaging the finishing of the floor.
Manual Scrubbing.
Mostly applied on spot cleaning, hardened debris or discolorations in the bathroom. With the
appropriate detergent solution, force is gently applied on the pad against the surface which needs
cleaning working on straight lines away from oneself then backward.
Tools & Material: scrubbing pad or brush, mild detergent, a bowl of water, squeegee or mop/cloth.

Wall Cleaning
It is a good idea to regularly clean painted walls to remove marks, scuffs, dirt, dust, and fingerprints.
Clean walls help the property look bright and fresh. Regular maintenance and proper care during
cleaning will sometimes prevent difficult-to-remove stains
