Course Title PRECISION ENGINEERING

Course No(s) MM ZC472/ QM ZC472

Credit Units Four

Credit Model 3 (coursework) + 1 (lab work)

Course Author Prof. PB Venkataraman

Version No Rev 1

Date 19-Jul-2019

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Precision Engineering has two parts, one related to the manufacturing processes and the other on
metrology. This course focuses primarily on precision measurements and metrology. The technological
growth in medical engineering, semiconductor devices and aerospace industries have posed a demand
on measurements and related metrology. The course aims at providing a perspective on this challenge
and the technological options. The course is built around the coursework on Precision Manufacturing
at Berkeley (University of California at Berkeley).

TEXT BOOKS:

T1 Richard Leach., Stuart Smith., Basics of Precision Engineering., CRC Press; 2018.

T2 David Dornfeld., Dae-Eun Lee., Precision Manufacturing; Springer, 1 st edition-

2008.
T3 Simon Winchester., Exactly; William Collins, 2018
