Guidelines on the Application, Screening and Selection of the Awardees for

the Award for Best Qualitative Research in the Senior High School
for S.Y. 2019-2020
A. About the Award
a. According to DepEd Order 36, s. 2016, or the Policy Guidelines on Awards
and Recognition for the K to 12 Basic Education Program, the Award for
Research or Innovation is given to Grade 12 graduating students who “have
led the planning and execution of a research or innovation to advance the
potential applications of technology, or research whose findings can be used to
drive better efficiency and productivity as well as to improve the lives of the
people in the school and/or community (p. 8)”. The applicants may be
individuals, in pairs or in groups of not more than four members. However,
since most of the learners at the Pampanga High School – Senior High School
(PHS-SHS) Department are grouped into five, or more members in some other
classes, these groups of learners/researchers can still apply for the Award
provided they meet all the other qualifications aside from the number of their
members.
b. On February 28, 2018, the PHS-SHS Department conducted the 2018 Search
for the Award for Research or Innovation. In this event, researches of different
types/methods (qualitative, quantitative, mixed method/research
capstone/feasibility) were presented and the student-awardees for the Best in
Research or Innovation for the S.Y. 2017-2018 were selected and were
eventually awarded during their Commencement Exercises. In the same event,
however, one of the major recommendations of the panel members, organizers
and other members of the audience is to have a separate research colloquium
and search/competition/presentation, and separate awards, for each research
method. Thus, since S.Y. 2018-2019, the PHS – SHS Department has been
conducting separate research colloquia and search/competitions/presentations,
and separate awards, for the various research methods. Premises considered,
this event entitled Qualitative Research Colloquium & Search for the Best
Qualitative Research in the Senior High School is hereby conducted.
c. One group from the Grade 12 graduating students, regardless of the strands,
shall be awarded during the Commencement Exercises for having the best
qualitative research in the SHS Department. Other groups of student-
researchers shall also be awarded as Finalist for Best Qualitative Research
during the same Commencement Exercises provided they meet the 90%
minimum grade average as required under DepEd Order 36, s. 2016.
d. The research criteria and weights that will be used in the evaluation and
deliberation process for this Best Qualitative Research Award are found in

and deliberation of the Award, rubrics consistent with the provisions of DepEd
Order 36, s. 2016, specifically on Research Output and Presentation, are
adopted by the Research Screening/Evaluation Committee (RSEC).
Additionally, people who are experts in the field of qualitative research are
also invited by the Committee to spearhead the evaluation and deliberation
process.

B. Applicants for the Award

research when they were in Grade 11, during their Practical Research 1 subject

cases when the qualitative research teacher is no longer teaching at the
