Quality Control at Merck

Quality control laboratory to

monitor the own high standards

Merck placed particular importance on

the quality of the products. In a letter
to a customer in 1851, Emanuel Merck
wrote: “I guarantee you consistent
purity of my preparations and will
compensate you for any loss
arising from an impure
preparation.” Merck’s “guaranteed
pure reagents” – labeled “pro
analysi” (“for analysis”) came onto
the market in 1888.
These created the basis for
comparative chemical analysis, since
they were manufactured according to
binding purity standards. A quality
control laboratory was established to
monitor these own high standards.

Reagent Requirements - today

Definitely SOLVENTS are still one of the most important and

most essential parts of chemistry. But it’s needless to say that
the requirements concerning the performance of a solvent have
changed dramatically …

▪ New detection methods

▪ Automation of analysis
▪ New instruments and technical equipment
▪ New fields of applications
▪ High degree of authoritative regulations
▪ New aspects in handling and safety

Branding - EMSURE® | EMPARTA® | EMPLURA®

EMSURE® EMPARTA® EMPLURA®

Premium Standard Basic
grade grade grade

Demanding and regulated Routine analytical applications Preparative lab work, cleaning
analytical applications and production

▪ Highest quality and reliability ▪ High quality but with fewer test ▪ Adequate range of Inorganics and
▪ Specified according to the most parameter than EMSURE® Solvents for a plurality of basic
important international norms ▪ Reduced offer in pack sizes and applications
▪ Huge variety of pack sizes and materials ▪ For non-regulated industries
packaging materials ▪ Specified acc. to ACS ▪ For less demanding applications,
▪ Premium grade for all regulated ▪ In line with nearly “analytical preparative laboratory work,
and demanding lab applications grade” chemical production and cleaning
purposes

6
Reagents according to international standards

▪ Most reagents are specified

according to ACS, as an
international standard for
analytical work.

▪ 10th edition, official from 2006

▪ Our reagent declaration always

conforms to be the
up-to-date version of ACS

▪ Updates are published regularly:

Reagents for pharmacopoeia analysis

Additionally, we offer nearly all EMSURE® products for pharmacopoeia analysis with
specification

for analysis EMSURE® ACS, Reag. Ph Eur

One specification for all

needs
in the wet chemical lab!

8
EMSURE® complies to requirements of ISO

▪ ISO develops international

standards for all industry Agriculture
sectors
▪ ISO standards are highly
Food Technology
specific
▪ Standards are specialized
for a specific area of Environmental

Universal

Our solvents and inorganic reagents have no boundaries. Due to

their multi-standard compliance, they can be used across the globe
for almost all applications.

This is a great advantage for our global customers as it allows them

to work with the same standard operating procedures (SOPs), and
export to countries with different regulations.

Reliability
Purity.Consistency.

Batch to batch consistency

Example of Acetone for analysis EMSURE(R)
ACS, ISO, Reag. Ph Eur (Article 1.00014)

•Comparison of 10 different batches

•3 different parameters exemplary shown
•All parameters are effectively above specified
value

Your Benefits

• Accurate and reproducible results

• Right conclusion (minimized risk of false-positive results
• Less no. of analysis
• Saving of costs & resources(time/sample/staff)
• Better knowledge of impurity profile

12
Packaging

Premium packaging not only protects chemicals, but

also the lab personnel who use them. That’s why we
have developed various innovative packaging and
withdrawal systems, which are precisely tailored to
the contents.

Here are some of our highlights:

• Light and unbreakable HDPE bottles for reagents
• Robust, PE-coated Safebreak bottles for acids
• Environmental friendly, returnable stainless
steel drums for solvents
