Daily Dairy Report
The first day started with four of us, heading to Hatigaon were the main Office of
the NGO Amar Prayash Gosthi, is located. There we met the Chairman Of The NGO,
Sir Anwar Hussain. We came to know about the NGO through Google. There we
discussed about the various issues and objectives that the NGO has accomplished
throughout the years. There we had a collective meeting and the chairman Sir Anwar
Hussain gave their visions and perspective.
The NGO has achieved the following goals throughout the years.
1. Natural Disaster Management
2. Brahmaputra Riverbank Erosion Risk Management
3. Fight against Child Molestation
4. Free Education for children under BPL
5. Fight against the Child Labour
Day 2
The next day begins, heading to Lal Mati from were we took a ride to the Udayanagar
Region. After climbing a few steps we managed to reach the Sub Office of Amar
Prayash Gosthi in the region of Udayanagar, were the Chairman Sir Anwar Hussain
was waiting for us. There we further discussed about the topic. He introduced as the
various locations, sites, offices and institutions located in Udayanagar from where
we could collect the necessary information related to our survey.
It was our third day, and our first task started from Mon Vikash Kendra ~ A home
for mentally Retarded People. It was basically a place were Mentaly Retarded
Children are looked after and taught. We met the Principal of Mon Vikash Kendra,
Sir Satyandra Thakuria. There we introduced ourself, being from Assam engineering
College and that we were having a survey on the Udayanagar region, regarding the
common problems faced. There we had about 23 students. The main objective of the
institution is to make the students self-dependent and to make them do their daily
activity by themselves. In 1988 they were funded by Indian oil. But since then they
hadn’t receive any support and were seeking fund and further training regarding the
developement of the institution and for the wellfare of the students. One of the main
problem faced by them is the water supply problem. Due to its location in hilly area,
they do not have direct contact to the Underground freshwater supply and had to
depend on buying water supply. 1000 litre representing 1 unit costs about Rs. 15.
But the cost per unit increases to Rs. 20 when number of units purchased exceeds 15
units. Another major problem faced by them is the presence of High Tension Electric
Wires by the Play Ground Field. It becomes very difficult for them to take
precautions regarding the safety of the Mentaly Retarded Students
Day 4
The next day started from The office of DIRECTORATE OF GEOLOGY AND
MINING. There we discussed about the recent events of Casualities or damaged
caused due to the recent Earthquakes and landslides. There we met one of the Alumni
of our Assam Engineering College, Sourav Nath passed out in 2013 from MCA. But
the Senior Geologist, who had the main details and datas regarding the Report of
Earthquakes and Landslides was out of Station for work.
Then we decided to visit one of the residential of Udayanagar region to find out the
views and their day to day problems. We talked with one of the residentail named
Khalidar Rahman. From the discussion we came to know about the following data.
1. Approximate Number of houses in Udayanagr - 324
2. Majority of the residentail are Muslim followed by Hindus, Manipuri and
Kachari
3. Predominant language spoken - Assamese
4. Problem in transportation - Lack of Public Bus and vehicles in the region.
5. Problems in regular load shedding.
6. Lack of Health care facilities

From the discussion we came to know that the region is safe from Earthquakes and
Landslides. Last incident occur was due to landslide, 5 to 6 years ago.
Day 5
Day 5 started visiting the Saragpur L.P. School of Udayanagar. There we met the
Principal of the L.P. School named Mr. Satrapati Talukdar. There we discussed the
matter regarding the problems faced by them and any help that they would be
seeking for. After a long discussion we came to notice that the school had no roof.
The principal said that the roof was blown away during a thunderstorm and that the
region suffers a lot during Thunderstorm. There had been many incident regarding
the thunderstorm in the region due to its hilly location. The school had received no
training or drill regarding the Earthquake and seeks for such training. There had been
water problem due to difficulties in Boring. The school had only 4 teachers and 85
students.
