INTRODUCTION
On-the-job Training is part of a curriculum that aims to train and orient students about the
work and their future career. It is a type of skill development where a worker learns how to do the
work through hands-on experience. On-the-Job Training is one method by which students are
exposed with different work situation designed to give students an opportunity to experience and
a chance to apply the theories and computation that they have learned from the school. It also helps
the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting. OJT is
very important not only to teach students regarding their chosen career but also to show students
the reality about working. The students will be exposed to the actual work related to the course
that they are taking. It also allows those with no experience to work and to learn at the same time.
On-the-Job Training helps the trainee to learn more about his chosen field and practice what he
has learned from the school. It helps in the building up of the trainee’s competence.
GRADE 12 Senior High School Students have started their work immersion related to their
selected academic track or their selected vocational course. The immersion trains students and
strengthen their skill or expertise for their work in the future. It is part of the K-12 program which
prepares students to work in companies.
According to the Department of Education, this program is an 80-hour hands-on encounter
which Senior High students must experience to open them to the genuine working environment
setting and improve their abilities learned in school. The Department of Labor and Employment
said work this is an integral part of the K to 12 Program in fully realizing its goal to produce job-
ready graduates equipped with industry-based skills. DOLE strongly affirms that work immersion
contributes to the full realization of the objectives of the K to 12 Program.
Through this program, the students can be ready for their big step in working and be
comfortable and familiar with business-related conditions in line with their specialization. Students
experience the social interaction in work environment that would help them as they graduate and
face real life. Work immersion is useful as it enables Senior High students to decide if what they
have chosen in school is what they want to have as a career. Being able to test their skills and
knowledge in practice will help them develop their career choice.

Accountancy, Business and Management
In 1982, Victor Gaisano and his wife Sally, built the first Gaisano Metro Department Store
and Supermarket in Colon, Cebu City. They started the business from very humble beginnings
with their children, Margaret, Jack, Edward and Frank.
Eventually, Gaisano Metro was renamed Metro Gaisano, and through the years evolved
into what is now known as Metro Department Store and Supermarket. Metro remains at the
forefront as the premiere home grown retailer from Cebu. Much more than the capital that started
the business, the core values set forth by its patriarch serve as the foundation of the business, which
has advanced from a start up to the present professional organization.
Consequently, an aggressive expansion brought Metro to major cities outside Cebu and the
Visayas region. Metro established its presence in Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, National Capital
Region, Calabarzon and the Bicol region. Today, Metro Retail Stores Group has transformed itself
into a company encompassing multiple store formats: Metro Department Store, Metro
Supermarket, Super Metro Hypermarket; and has grown into a company of over 9,000 employees
with 52 stores serving the needs of over 250,000 shoppers a day.

It has been an eventful 35 years of operations from the time Metro started as Gaisano
Metro, to Metro Gaisano, and to the present Metro Retail Stores Group. And it has all been for the
good.
Victor Gaisano and his family proved that good products and good services can only go so
far, but a good name built on hard work and trust, is what wins loyalty in customers.
The second-generation Gaisano siblings are never remiss in looking back at where their
parents, Victor and Sally, started. Their businesses are a testament to hard work and perseverance
backed by two generations of successful entrepreneurs led by their parents.
For some, having a good business sense is a gift. But most of the time, good business sense
is simply a long-term vision of greater things for something presently small. And that is exactly
what Victor and Sally Gaisano had for Metro.

EXPERIENCES
My first day was really a good start and I was happy that time because I got my first job
to be accomplished. I was surprised because I was assigned in the Marketing Department that is
more on Advertisement and Promotions.
On the second day of training, there are many things that I have accomplished. I was
tasked to encode price of goods and the percentage of discount of an item.
The third day, we feel comfortable because there is no task to do except giving flyers to
the customers passing by.
Then, the next day there was a fully loaded task but despite of it, I really enjoyed and
learned just academically but socially as well because I learned to adjust myself to the people I
am with.
After the training, I learned that OJT is not just a requirement to be completed but it is an
opportunity to show what skills, knowledge and talents that I have and also an opportunity to
experience the feeling of being a professional already

LEARNINGS
The 80 hours I spent doing my work immersion has been one of the most amazing journey
because it serve as my stepping stone. I experienced different situations especially in the
workplace. I can personally say that I grew more of what I’ve learned.
I can say that it was not just my skills and knowledge that were being developed during my
training but also my personality as a student today and as a future professional someday. This
OJT really helped me to be more determined and to be more competitive in everything that I do
in life.
It is a very heartwarming thing to know that there are people who believe in me. I’m very
grateful because I made them proud of what I have accomplished during my training and they
were very thankful for everything that I gave helped them with.
I won’t forget my Training Managers who challenged not just my skills and abilities but also my
patience and perseverance. They are a kind of person who wants everything to be done instantly
and correctly. They doesn’t like having doubts. I was always nervous whenever that calls for my
help. But with that experience that I had with my training managers. I am so thankful to them
because they taught me to be more patient and confident of what I know is right and not to have
doubt about what I can do.
All of the people I have worked with during my On-The-Job Training are all very inspiring.
They all left a piece of advice to me that I will surely keep in my mind and in my heart for the
rest of my life.
I really had a very meaningful and memorable event. Though I already finished working there as
a trainee, I am looking forward to working with them, not as a trainee anymore, but as one of
them, SOMEDAY.

CONCLUSION
Nothing beats experience as the perfect learning tool. This On-The-Job Training served as
my stepping stone to pursue my dream to be a professional someday. This training give me an
inspiration to be more serious and focused in studying. I was encouraged to do more efforts in my
studies. Since I was given ideas about the task in the workplace where I conducted my training, I
am inspired to be like them someday.
This training made me realize that it is really good to know that you’re doing, and to love
it, As a student, what I can do for now is to learn whatever I can in school, be inspired, love the
path I am taking, and do my best in everything I do, with positive outlook in mind. I realized that
I should be more focused in school and do everything heartily and with all that I can.
