    The Centre for Environmental Law and Policy along with the Debate and Literary Cell at
    Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur announces its First National Essay Writing Competition on
    the topic “Environmental Justice”.

    Sub- themes

    1. Role of Law and Governance in securing Climate Justice


    2. Environmental Democracy: The necessity for developing Sustainable Societies.
    3. Waste trafficking: Impact and Challenges
    4. Should Ecological Entities like Rivers and Forest be considered as Legal Persons?
    5. Right to Grow in Healthy Environment : Reality or Discourse?

    Submission Guidelines

    1. The Competition is open to all the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students, in any
    stream, enrolled in any recognized institution/University in India.
    2. The participants must submit an attested copy of their students Identity Card/bonafide
    certificate along with the essay.
    3. The essays must be submitted in English language only and must be in Microsoft Word
    Format (.doc/.docx). Essays in any other language and format will be rejected summarily.
    4. Only one submission per author is permitted. Co-authorship is permitted to a
    maximum of two authors per essay.
    5. All entries should include a cover page specifying name of the author, institutional
    affiliation, course and year of study, e-mail address and contact number for further
    communication.
    6. Any identifying information should not be mentioned anywhere in the text of the essay
    and violation of the same shall lead to immediate disqualification.
    7. Paper must be original and unpublished work of the authors. The paper should not be
    under consideration for publication or in a contest elsewhere.
    8. Plagiarism of any nature will attract immediate disqualification.
    9. The suggested word limit for the essay is 3500 words inclusive of citations.
    10. Every essay must have a title and abstract of maximum 150 words.
    Formatting Guidelines

    1. The essays should be typed in Times New Roman, Font Size-12, LineSpacing-1.5, and
    Justified.
    2. The footnotes must be typed in Times New Roman, Font Size-10 and Line Spacing-1.
    3. The margins should be 1 inch or 2.54 cm on all sides.
    4. Every citation must follow the Harvard Bluebook, 20th Edition.

    Submission Procedure

    1. There is no hard copy submission.


    2. The essays must be sent by email to [email protected] the subject
    “Submission for The SLS NAGPUR Essay Writing Competition on Environmental
    Justice”.
    3. The deadline for submission is 11:59 pm, 15thAugust, 2019

    4. Date of declaration of result is 20th August, 2019

    5. There is no registration fee for the competition.


    6. The essay and cover sheet must be submitted as separate documents in the same e-mail.

    Prizes

    1. Prizes
    a. 1st place - Rs. 8000 /-
    b. 2nd place - Rs. 5000 /-
    c. 3rd place - Rs 3500 /-
    2. The result of the competition will be displayed on the SLS NAGPUR Website.
    3. A certificate of participation shall be e-mailed to all the contestants who have
    successfully submitted an essay.
    4. Depending upon the quality of entries, the best scoring essays will be published by
    Centre for Environmental Law and Policy, with due credit given to the authors.
