The passage discusses finding perimeters, areas, gradients of lines, and properties of triangles and parallelograms using coordinate geometry.

To find the perimeter of a parallelogram, add all the side lengths. To find the area, multiply one side length by the height. The height can be found using the gradient of one of the sides.

The intersection point of the perpendicular bisectors of the three sides of a triangle is equidistant from the three vertices. This point is called the circumcenter.

b. Find the area of the parallelogram.

Base = RS = 5 units
Eqn of RS : 4x – 3y = -5
Perpendicular distance from T to RS = Height of the parallelogram = 4.2 units
Area = 5 x 4.2 = 21 sq units

2. Consider the points and in the coordinate plane. Let be the origin.

a. Find the coordinates of a point, , away from the origin on the line that make triangle

C will be of the form (a,a)

Slope of AC x Slope of BC = -1

But C is a point away from the origin so a =5

c) Is PM parallel to AB?
Slope of PM = -3
Slope of AB = -3
Lines are parallel
d) Will this be true for any triangle

Yes.
e) Find the perpendicular bisectors of
OA and OB.
Slope of perpendicular bisector of OA= -2/3
It passes through M(2,3)
Equation : 3y = -2x + 13

Slope of perpendicular bisector of OB = 0

It passes through P(3,0)
Eqn : x = 3
f) Find the point W where the two bisectors intersect.
(3,7/3)
g) Show that the perpendicular bisector of AB also passes through W.
Slope of perpendicular bisector of AB = 1/3
It passes through N(5,3)
Eqn : 3y = x + 4

Substituting (3,7/3) in the above

LHS : 7
RHS : 7

Therefore, the perpendicular bisector passes through W.

h) Explain why W is equidistant from O, A and B.
i) W is called the circumcentre of triangle OAB. Using W as the centre, draw a circle through O,

4. Line A is parallel to the line with equation 2x − y = 7 and passes through the point (2, 3). Line B is
perpendicular to the line with equation 4x − 3y + 3 = 0 and also passes through the point (2, 3). Line C

a) Determine the equations for all three lines. Give answers in the form ax + by + c = 0.
Line A :
Slope = 2
Eqn: y = 2x -1
Line B
Slope = -3/4
Eqn: 4y = -3x + 18
Line C
Passes through (6,0) and (0,-1)
Eqn: y = 1/6 x - 1
b) Sketch all three lines on the one set of axes.

c) Determine whether the triangle formed by the three lines is scalene, isosceles or equilateral.
Pts of intersection : A(2,3) ,B(0,-1) and C(6,0)
AB = √
BC = √
AC = √
The triangle is scalene

two regions being served by the post offices?

The boundary should be formed by the perpendicular bisector.

Slope of PQ = -3/2
Slope of perpendicular bisector = 2/3
Eqn : y = 2/3 x + 6
