SPECIAL STUDY:
I propose to do a special study on spatial experience
of mall and also creating an impact on enabling the
visitors to interact with spaces around and use the
result of this study in my design. For this I shall be
reading:
1. The language of space by Bryan Lawson (PDF
version on the Net)
2. The eyes of the skin by Juhani Pallasmaa (PDF
version on the Net)
3. Atmospheres by Peter Zumthor (PDF version on the
Net)
These are the books that I plan to read related to my thesis topic:
1. New architecture of shopping complex- Stejanie Schupp ( MEASI LIBRARY)
It defines the transition between public and private spaces. Embedded within the urban context with its diverse
functions such as living, working, recreation and culture, it can take on an inspirational character and motivate
inhabitants and visitors to become customers of the retail shops. The architecture of commerce is hence much
more than the mere creation of retail space. New Architecture of Shopping Complexes captures this challenge of
creating a successful architecture of commerce that allows both a high recognition level for the retail sector and at
the same time adheres to high levels of architectural quality.

2. Winning shopping mall center design by International Council of Shopping Center

The leading showcase of shopping centre design spotlights the 20 winners of this year's International Design and
Development Program. Representing the most creative and ingenious design solutions for shopping centre
renovation, expansion, and new construction, each innovative project is presented in dazzling full colour from a
variety of photographic perspectives.

3. Top shopping mall by Dalian university of technology press by Liu Rong(MEASI library)
It includes Beijing, Financial Street Shopping Center, North Xidan Grand Yuecheng, Beijing WTO-day bands, 100 in
conjunction Shanghai Festival Walk shopping mall, Shenzhen Yee King Center City, Metro City Shopping Center
Beijing, Beijing Xinguang world, Shenzhen COCO PAPK and so on.

4. Architectural standard EMST peter neuferd architects.

5. Technical references external shading devices.
My live case studies:
1. Phoenix market city, Mumbai.
2. Express avenue, Chennai.
3. Orion mall, Bangalore.
My net case studies:
1. Lulu international shopping mall , Kochi
2. IBN battuta mall , Dubai
3. ION orchard mall , Singapore
After I do my study and complete my case studies I will be
able to identify the zoning of spaces that the project will require
and chose site with size and orientation accordingly.

PROJECT PROPOSAL 3
RECREATION & WELLNESS CENTER
C. PROJECT - RECREATION AND WELLNESS CENTER
 Recreation is the expenditure of time with leisure actives of relaxation and amusement,
entertainment, indoor and outdoor facilities, platform of interaction in a refreshing and diverting
manner. It also develops with a commitment to fun and fitness for the entire family with range of
activities. It offers a junction for tourism, sports and cultural development.
 Recreational involvement serves to augment your academic pursuits. The often used phrase "a
sound body - a sound mind" is more than a trite platitude, for in developing genuine physical fitness,
one develops beneficial habits, which flow into the intellectual realm.
 A wellness center is an establishment that offers health services for the body and
mind. Wellness centers usually offer skin care services and body services such as fitness, personal
training and nutrition consulting. Some wellness centers offer more alternate services such as
chiropractic, acupuncture, or holistic medicine.
 The "whole" person must grow spiritually, mentally, and physically, with each area of growth
being intertwined with the others. Recreation participation is a great way to work on physical
development in wholesome, sociable surroundings.
 Architecture and design can promote the healing process by giving patients a psychological
and physical lift. In the competition between hospitals and doctors’ surgeries, the wellbeing factor is
playing an ever more important role. Healthcare buildings need to actively contribute to the
healing process by relaxing and reinvigorating patients. New knowledge and ideas are adding new
impetus to spatial design practice.
AIM & SCOPE:
 This aims at Health and wellness of people for mental and physical rejuvenation alone
with leisure activities.
 To coordinate the usage medical, social ,educational and professional activities
Physiotherapy , electrotherapy , exercise therapy, spas ,massages , gym with leisure
