ABSTRACT

Technology plays important role in our daily lives. These embody electronic games,

home computers, hand-held devices, and totally different sort of gadgets. Gadgets are common in

kids and as possible in elders. During this norm we tend to can’t keep our youngsters out of this.

This paper presents the impact of gadgets on kids in positive and negative manner. Analysis has

been conducted in however gadgets impact on psychological feature and motor skills of

youngsters. It additionally describes the ways in which for fogeys however they'll monitor their

kids by limiting their time of contrivance uses. Because the gadgets are increasing day by day,

it's resulting in the technology addiction among kids. The paper concludes with

recommendations for additional study of higher understanding of more issues in kids by growing

impact of computers.

Introduction

The gadgets are terribly helpful, they assist United States hook up with one another, they

create United States learn new things and find out new things. The rationale why pc technologies

are fancied is to assist create people’s life easier and to boost their manner of life, particularly the

scholars. Fashionable pc technologies create learning easier and fun to the scholars. As long as

students don’t become fanatics once it involves gadgets, we tend to don’t assume that they may

have a nasty influence or a bad result on students. The gadgets create our life higher in many

ways. Let’s deem example the cellular phone, several of you are “lost” while not it and once it

involves students this device is quite simply a cellular phone, may be a chat chance, an online

affiliation, a camera and a lot of. As a result of mobile phones have nowadays lots of options and

that they aren't simply devices created for communication between folks.

As the world grows into technologically refined, there's an excellent demand for the most

popular electronic gadgets. These are telephone, laptop, camera, MP3 player, and several other

cool electronic gadgets. & quot cell phones support a good sort of alternative services like,

text electronic messaging, multimedia system electronic messaging, email, web access,

Bluetooth, business applications, games, photography and calendaring among alternative

services.

One to 1 computing (1:1), a state of affairs during which every student has an online

connected computing device, has been deployed extensively within the past decade, with a belief

that accumulated access to laptop resources would end in a rise of student learning and
improvement of teaching practices. Existing analysis indicates positive outcomes with reference

to student engagement and student motivation once 1:1 access is provided in ancient lecture

rooms. However, analysis is not as consistent with reference to the impact of 1:1

implementations on student action. Mixed results not solely among studies, however conjointly

inside individual studies, confounds and hints at the complex nature and unpredictability of 1:1

implementations on student action.

CHAPTER 1

The Problem and It’s Setting

Background of The Study

According to (Idos and Patacsil, 2017) in today’s generation, technology has

affected and altered the means people live. Technology has created people’s lives improved and

comfortable. There is hardly anyone who has not been modified by the advances in technology

and computers of today’s society. In today’s civilization, transportation, communication, and

education are greatly developed from new technological advancements. Many of us have lesser

stress in their lives as a result of there are new helpful advanced inventions created on a daily

basis to assist them do things faster and easier. A number of these useful technologies are cell

phones, computers, and also the net.

Globally, Students are embracing gadgets with relish. At St. Petersburg High

School in Florida, where a new policy allows cell phones, organizers and some other devices to

be used only with permission, Mark Boyle, a 17-year-old senior, uses his phone as a daily

planner, as a memo pad and, furtively, as a video game when he is bored in class. Even his locker

combination is stored in his phone. ''It's easier to get at than pulling out a notebook and paper,''

he said (Lee, 2002).

Nationally, in the Philippines, back then, students were asked to bring out a pen

and a sheet of paper whenever a teacher announces a pop quiz, whether it’s about Math, Science
or Filipino. But in a school in Batangas, second-year students are able to take a quiz using tablet

computers, and get their scores right after they submit their answers.Diwa Learning Systems, a

Philippine educational resource provider, recently held a special demonstration of its newest

product, the YoPad, at First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) in Tanauan,

Batangas. Teachers can put anything in the seven-inch Android tablet, from lectures to digital

textbooks and magazines (Flores, 2013)

Locally, According to (Sun Star, 2013), in Sto. Tomas, Davao Del Norte,

Academic institutions here have raised a red flag after they reported that the number of minors-of

which majority are either elementary or secondary students-addicted in massive multi-user

online role playing games continuously risking as manifested in the low turned out of attendance

in school.

Statement of the Problem

This study determined the impact of gadgets in learning to Senior High School

students in Emar Human and Environmental College during the 1st semester, S.Y. 2019-2020.

Specifically, it answered the following sub-problems:

1. What is the students’ frequency of use on the following gadgets in learning?

a. cell phones;

b. Computers;

2. What is the impact of the use of gadgets in learning as perceived by the students?

Review and Related Literature

The word gadgetCome from French gâchette or gagée. An often small mechanical

or electronic device with a practical use but often thought of as a novelty. Today, the fashion-

minded and young generation judge themselves according to the type of gadgets they boasts with

them. Because of the growing demands of latest gadgets among the youths, the manufacturers

keep on introducing gadgets in the market on regular basis. People across the globe are getting

addicted towards the latest gadgets and life without a gadget is becoming impossible for us. To

cater the specific demands of youths, the market of gadgets are flooded with several latest and

technically advanced gadgets. The effect of these latest gadgets is tremendous and still debate is

going on to find out whether the impact of these gadgets on youth is negative or positive

(Espinosa and Catalan, 2015)

Recently, every other day information technology or IT invents lucrative gadgets

are attracting the attention of the present generation. As a vulnerable group, the youth becomes

the largest consumer of such devices and services, which in turn makes them addicted to them at

some point of time. Addiction is the continued repetition of behaviour or an activity independent

upon the adverse or negative consequences of the same or it can be neurological impairments

which lead to such behaviours. There is no such limitation of the use of the term addiction to

some specific behaviour such as drug addiction, food addiction etc. Psychological control over
substance and behaviour, preoccupation with the subject and the continuation of activities despite

consequences are generally the symptoms of addiction (Muduli, 2013).

New media technologies and a number of important studies were conducted in the

2000’s on the impact of children’s intellectual development, and various aspects of using such

technologies. Many researches were conducted aimed to organize understanding the change that

took place by using these technologies, and to explore the conversion in children’s behaviour and

focused to discover-what extent children feel aggression, and how they react by using these

modern technologies e.g. video games, mobile phones with various applications embedded using

via Internet with Wi-Fi connections video games consoles and internet (Idos and Patascal, 2017)

A gadget is a little tool or device with a particular helpful purpose and performance. Gadgets

tend to be more unusual or smartly designed than normaltechnology. In today’s life, tasks are

maximized with the utilization of contemporary gadgets. It is easier to accomplish daily tasks and

other people are able to work efficiently (Menorca et al, 2017)

Technology has revolutionized the sector of education. The importance of technology in schools

cannot be neglected. In fact, with the onset gadgets in education, it's become easier for academics

to impart information and for students to amass it. The utilization of technology has created the

method of teaching and learning pleasant. (Ivan, 2016). Technology has been proved to be very

useful in educating student. Children can access the tutorial websites and may get detailed

information concerning needed topic. Technology makes things better as have access to pile of

fabric and may be very helpful in analysis and understanding things better. Visual shows,

instructional videos, interactive programs, learning tutorial and kind of books on the market all

the time on internet has revolutionized education in a very better method. Kids learn state of the

art tools and strategies by their own. Instructional games help kids to perform well in their
studies. As they will have several online quizzes on the market, on-line tutorials and group action

riddles.Gadgets are fun for kids whereas they use them. They get pleasure from enjoyinggames

on them whether or not it’s a puzzle or race, or candy crush, or an easy first person shooter game,

kids have a good time and that they perceive simple aspects of cause and result, action and

reaction. Electronic devices have way more advanced learning choices for kids during a fun way

then books or older ways. (Sundus, 2018). Technology has continuously been advancing

throughout the years. it has created an enormous impact on people particularly on life style. one

in all the numerous things that are affected within the society; having been a standard supply of

data and amusement.

In our gift generation, students are obsessed in using Gadgets. they typically want to shop for the

newest release of those Gadgets to satisfy their needs in terms of entertainment and obtaining the

newest of the new. As a result, students tend to involve gadgets in their everyday lives as well as

in their studies. (StudyMoose, 2016). Technology is a huge factor in the lifetime of men. In each

facet of life, technology is getting used, and in each hand of an individual you see is technology.

Technology was once the newest technology in our homes, so came videos and computers. Today

is kids are growing up in an exceedingly speedily dynamical digital age that's so much totally

different from that of parents and grandparents. a range of technologies are all around is in our

homes, offices, and faculties. When used with wisdom, technology and media can support

learning and relationships. gratifying and engaging shared experiences that optimize the potential

for children’s learning and development can support children’s relationships each with adults and

their peers. parents on the opposite hand can be curious and meticulous on how they will settle

for technology on the hands of their young offspring as a result of it can even lead other forms of

technology to be a bad impact to their own children, that can additionally cause negative life
style for the kids. Gadgets like computers, cell phones, gaming consoles, online games, social

networks, and all different technologies that are being used in a very each day already by the

children. children these days see this type of latest digital culture as a traditional a part of life

already, and also the parents are being surprised by the things that are giving them challenges by

the technology nowadays. Things like cyber bullies, stalkers, fraud, and every one other forms of

issues that are being faced with the technology nowadays. (De lima and Castronuevo, 2016).

It could be almost a providing technology is a large advantage as so much as their having the

ability to induce somewhere in life cares. it is truly not a matter of whether or not or not it will

have impact on students however whether or not it will impact the educational method absolutely

or negatively and accelerate the learning process. Given the recognition technology is enjoying

nowadays, it comes as no surprise that it's being attributable for the rise publically awareness

among students, one thing that wont to be a challenge for each parents and educators.

For one, technology accelerates, enriches and deepens a student’s basic skills. Recent studies

show that students learn quicker and understand better after they use technology because it

facilitates cooperative learning. Real communication with adults is feasible as a result of they're

obtaining wont to it and it's one medium they feel most comfy with.

Technology conjointly keeps students actuated and engaged within the learning method. once

students are engaged in one thing, they learn a lot of particularly after they are ready to relate this

to real-life things, particularly in matters regarding communication, scientific analysis and

problem-solving. Technology conjointly helps prepare students for the important world, by
creating them into people who are a lot of productive and more competitive, one thing that

contributes considerably to economic process and a a lot of viable work force market.

Experts believe that it is best to show students concerning technology after they are young, on

the other hand again with gadgets turning into more cost-effective, colleges are ready to

incorporate additional technology into their curriculum so it’s extremely has became one thing

kids simply learn like a way to ride a bike or how to play basketball.

Today’s tech-savvy students, however, don't seem to be simply restricted to a desktop computer

or a laptop as so much as obtaining higher grades or maintaining them cares. With such a large

amount of innovative advancements accessible, there is much no excuse for students to induce

discount basement grades and then here, in no specific order, are the most effective ways that for

students to get old-school straight A’s the high-tech way. (Nuttall, 2013)

Cell Phone

Accroding to (Dico, 2015) Cell phones or mobile phones have become a very

important part of our daily lives. It is very difficult to imagine our life without a cell phone as

most of our wor1d is done using cell phones. Everything has its pros and cons and mobile phones

to have its positives and negatives. The mobile phone was originally created for adults for

business use. This is extraordinarily similar to the fixed telephone in the early twentieth

century, wherever telephone engineers explained that the telephone was created for the

business world and not for social conversation. the expansion of mobile technology is
demonstrated by the very fact that in 2002 the range of mobile phone users worldwide,

surpassed those of fixed-phone users. (Soyemi, 2015).

Cellular phones first became wide out there within the United States in the 1990s, however their

use has enlarged dramatically since then. Alongside the massive and still growing range of cell

phone users (both adults and children), the amount of your time individuals spend on their

phones has additionally risen sharply in recent decades. (American Cancer Society, 2018). Cell

phones can give an affordable means that of communications, particularly cell phones with a

two-way radio perform. They provide during a single unit each a two-way radio and also the

ability to decision the police directly once required, also as managers.Cell phones work by

connecting to a cellular network, which people pay a subscription fee to join. The cellular

network could be a wireless digital/radio network that is created from cells that are served by

transceivers known as base stations. These base stations are connected to the general public

switched phonephone network (PSTN) identical as a standard land line phone, permitting the

calls to and from your wireless phone to be sent to any phone, despite whether or not it's a part of

the cellular network. Cell phones use Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM) or SIM cards that are

good cards, to store info regarding the subscriber to the cellular network. As a result of the

cardboard stores info regarding the cellular phone subscriber, it permits cellular phone users to

change phones by removing the cardboard and inserting it in a very new phone. The data within

the card is employed to demonstrate the user to the network. Cell phones may use memory

storage cards known as flash media, which permit pictures, video, music, applications, and

different information to be keep on the cellular phone. A number of the foremost common cards

are Compact Flash, good Media, and Memory Stick cards. Cell phones have limits, however.

Before selecting employing a cellular phone as a primary means that of communication, it's
necessary to conduct a take a look at with the sort of telephone planned to be used in each dark

recess of the building, parking structure, stairwell, restroom, storeroom, and throughout the

complete facility. Otherwise, you'll discover a dead spot in barely the place wherever the worst

possible emergency is occurring, precisely once it occurs. Cell phones are particularly valuable

for patrol officers in vehicles due to their wide geographical reach, permitting the officer to be

reached each on and off the property. (Norman, 2017).

Focuses on each the behavioural side of the adverse effect of prolonged cellular phone use

instead of simply insomnia and headaches. cellular phone use is in depth among school goers.

thus being not aware of the dangerous effects of cellular phone radiations over physical body is

dangerous. The study reflects associate degree association between in depth cellular phone usage

and irritability beside alternative psychological changes like lack of concentration. many

measures are prompt to avoid in depth use of cellular phone by the author. The study strategies

used could be a pre-tested form. The results are reliable because the form was pretested and it's a

retrospective study so method we will get an inspiration of already exposed cases and their

association with adverse psychological effects. The strength of the study was sample size still as

age of below twenty years. it's the foremost vulnerable population that is undergoing brain and

neuronic development. The weakness is that the analysis tool used for the study. it's not clear

through his paper that did the employment Person has letter or different paired t-tests so as to

verify the association between variables. Future studies have to be compelled to done using the

powerful applied mathematics tool also as study style experimental study. (Acharya et al, 2019)

Cell phone use releases magnetic force radiations. the foundation of brain activity is that the

neuronic cells. The neuronic activity is tormented by thermal impact caused because of in depth
use of cell phones. many brain dysfunctions are associated because of in depth use of cell phones

like Parkinson’s illness or Alzheimer’s disease still as lack of concentration etc. The analysis

reflects the results of association between radiation also as hindrance in firing activity of

neuronic cells. the foremost affected cells are IP neuronic network. Uses a mathematical model

to explain the impact of electromagnetic wave on neuronic firing activity by introducing a further

membrane current into the Hodgkin–Huxley somatic cell model. The results are valid as they're

employing a mathematical model. within the energy absorption assumption, expected that a

district of the facility of nonparticulate radiation might be absorbed by the neuronic media and

this absorbed power ought to be translated into a further polarizing current in neuronal media.

this may therefore be in line with the suppression impact of electromagnetic wave on neuronic

firing that this analysis study is victimization. The strength of the study is that the mathematical

multi-stage model whereas the weakness is that there aren't any tested facts that a similar applies

universally as electromagnetic wave distribution differs in numerous neuronic networks. Future

studies ought to take into thought the magnetic force field distribution in numerous neuronic

network setup. (Li et al, 2015).

Cell phones are in trend be it in school, work or emergency. kids are a lot of prone to adverse

result of in depth use of cell phones compared to different population teams. the present study by

Zarghami et al. assesses the extent to that students of Mazandaran university of medical sciences

operate still as use cellular phones and determines the health result of cell phone use them when

lights-out sort of a headache, tiredness, sleep disorder also because the lack of ability to focus.

The results replicate the association between in depth use of cellular phone and lack of ability to

concentrate, insomnia still as a headache. The ways used by the author in his cross sectional

study is apt and therefore the results are reliable because the author used logistical regression and
chi-square check. The strength of the study is that the applied mathematics analysis methodology

used whereas the weakness is little sample size which can not represent the population

worldwide. The collected knowledge was self-reported therefore giving probability to biases

within the results. The thought to avoid biases in future such studies is a thanks to get valid

results or perform completely different study style. (Zhargami et al, 2015).

Before analyzing human interactions with cell phones, it is important to know the definition of

addiction and addictive characteristics. Alaghemandan explained that every one entities capable

of stimulating a person can be addictive . In his article, “Behavioral addiction versus substance

addiction: Correspondence of psychiatric and psychological views," he found that “whenever a

habit changes into an obligation, it can be considered as an addiction.” The Department of

medicine conducted an experiment that evaluated how behavioural addiction related to

substance addiction. according to their analysis, “Behavioral addiction like internet addiction is

analogous to drug addiction except that within the former, the individual isn't addicted to a

substance but the behavior or the sensation caused by the relevant action. Mozes introduced the

construct of materialism and therefore the factors that contribute to society’s obsession without

devices. In his article, “Can Excessive radiotelephone Use Become an Addiction,” printed by

U.S. News & World Report, Mozes declared, “The manner we tend to treat and move with

our devices is usually impulsive and uncontrollable. Roberts additionally explained that there are

advantages to cell phones, but, “like something, if we go overboard it can become a problem.

Roberts explained that various factors together with materialism and impulsiveness play a task in

turning telephone use into an addiction. Roberts was quoted by Mozes as saying, “That’s

significantly true once we use them too publicly, as a result of once we do therefore we’re
signaling that we’ve got this shiny object, this standing image, our iPhone or robot or Blackberry,

and that

we’ve got necessary folks to speak to or text, World Health Organization are could also be even a

lot of necessary than the folks right in front people. which we’re so necessary that we've got to

speak all over and every one the time before of others. The article, “A Biblio Analysis of the

Scientific Literature on web, Video Games, and telephone Addiction,” published within the

Journal of the Medical Library Association, over that the considerable amount of telephone use

in today’s international society is not quantity a problem of addiction and dependence. But rather

it is a difficulty of dominant impulses. The study stated, “One behavioural addiction that has

received considerable media attention is that the pathological use of bound data and

communications technologies (ICT), like the internet, cell phones, and video games.” If humans

learned to control their impulses associated with cellular phone use, they might tend the chance

to interact and communicate with the present atmosphere during which they are surrounded.

Morrill studied the changes in adolescent development since cell phones became an integral

aspect in american society. within the article, “Cell Phone Use and Psychological Development

Among rising Adults,” Morrill explained issues} close the ability for adolescents to solve

problems, trust, and have positive self-affirmation because of cellular phone use. Young adults

feel a way of title and standing with a cell phone. Morrill compared cell phones in today’s

society to technology from older generations. Morill additional that the younger population

became the first users of cell phones in America, and “the price and that means of a telephone for

a young adult can possibly carry sturdy social implications within their contemporaries.” Morrill

explains that “Measuring the constant affiliation and distraction; the number of time spent in

voice-to-voice communication and text messaging; in addition because the length of telephone
possession could determine the impacts on an adolescent’s psycho social development

throughout one in all the foremost crucial periods in their life. AN individual’s identity

development could influence however cell phones are accustomed explore, make commitments,

and resolve crises throughout this turbulent stage in development.” In Brian’s study, students had

to relinquish up their phones and electronic media for twenty-four hours. The results showed

that, “One in 5 folks intimate with changes in their bodies or emotions that are signs of

attainableaddiction.”16 Participants thought they detected their phone ring or vibrate, even once

it wasn’t with them, they had sturdy cravings to achieve for his or her phone to see missed

messages or calls. Some folks were fidgeting and unable to be still, additionally to feeling

anxious, worried and lonely Brian conducted an experiment with 2 teens UN agency would go

while not phones for forty eight hours. She published her analysis and findings within the article

“Two Days with No Phone.” before conducting the experiment, Brian asked the 2 teens

regarding their phone habits and also the quantity of your time they pay with their devices. She

found that the 2 students awakened many times throughout the night to text. One student even

slept together with his phone below his pillow. “It’s common for teens’ sleep to be interrupted by

texts. Sometimes teens even send texts full of nonsense words once they don’t get up all the

way,” Brian claims that many teens have troubling issues after they attempt to go while not cell

phones or technology. (Jones, 2014). In a few short years, the proliferation of mobile networks

has transformed communications in Sub-Saharan Africa. it has additionally allowed Africans to

skip the land line stage of development and jump right to the digital age. Cell phones are

pervasive in the region. In 2002, roughly one-in-ten owned a mobile phone in Tanzania, Uganda,

African nation and Gold Coast. Since then, cellular phone possession has mature exponentially.

Today, cell phones are as common in south africa and Nigeria as they are within the United
States. Smartphones (those that can access the internet and applications) are less wide used,

though important minorities own these devices in many nations, including 34th of South

Africans. Texting most typical use of cell phones in Africa cell phones have different uses for

various people, but sending text messages and taking photos or video are the most common

activities among mobile homeowners. during a few nations, like African nation, Republic of

Uganda and Tanzania, mobile banking is additionally comparatively common. different

activities, like obtaining political news, accessing a social networking web site, obtaining health

and client info and looking out for employment are done less frequently. ( PewResearchCenter,

2015)

Cell phones, tablets, and other devices open up a world to access facts and concepts. If a student

has to define a word, a search on the web can quickly return the definition and thousands of

different pages with connected content. There also are many academic apps to assist students

carry on high of their schedules and work, like Moodle, or perhaps to assist them learn new

languages, like Duolingo.

For students who have problem conceptualizing ideas or partaking with topics like biology, the

employment of devices has created it easier for instructors to share educational videos. And these

aren’t the hour-long, droning videos of the past. Short videos are proving to be simpler in

capturing students’ attention and developing their understanding of the fabric. These videos are

paired with active learning tools, like answering a poll or finishing a test, to assist students

comprehend the content.

When it involves specializing in an assignment, permitting students to pay attention to music will

be useful, because it helps quiet the unconscious attention system that shifts to no matter our

senses verify to be important. One student’s clicking a pen will be incredibly distracting for one

more student. Music will help remove these distractions and shift a student’s focus to the task at

hand. (American University, 2018)

Computers

Computers play animportantrole in each field. They aid industrial processes;

they notice applications in medicine; theyare the center of the softwaresystem industry; they

play animportant role in education.Computers can turn out being a brilliant aid in teaching.

Computers facilitate an audio-visual representation of information, thus making the process of

learning interactive and interesting. Computer-aided teaching adds a fun element to education

(Oak). Internet can play an important role in education (UK Essays, 2018)

Academic Performance

A study was conducted by Kanaabi and Wandawa on August. 3, 2010 that cellular

phones affects the academic performance of students. This study indicates that cellular phones

could be a large distraction to one’s attention particularly on school hours. Thus, some schools

prohibits the use and bringing their cellphones in class. a number of them use phones to call

examiners and different students who might have access to examination papers. this can be

common throughout national, regional and district examinations. This causes panic and

confusion among students as a result of they get varied info from totally different sources and on

several occasions, specialize in rewriting the incorrect way, so failing. (StudyMoose, 2016).
Gadget has always been advancing throughout the years. it is very helpful in our everyday lives,

particularly in our school works that make our works easier. it has created a large impact to

plenty of us, particularly on one's way. almost every students used their gadgets for his or her

academic works and that we all understand that gadgets are reliable for each students as a result

of they know that it will facilitate them in doing their works. In today's modern generation,

students are obsessed in using gadgets. So, as a result, students tend to spend their time on their

gadgets instead of learning. in this living of the students wherever they use their gadgets in their

academic performance, this agenda within the field concerns the well-being of the students

curious if they are too dependent with their gadgets. This apparently affects the student's

academic performance also as its learning habits. (GradesFixer, 2019).

Grades

Getting good grades with gadgets could be a resource for anyone who needs to

find out the way to use mainstream and/or helpful technologies to succeed in school. John Lee,

helpful Technology Specialist at the DRC, has compiled the following list of gadgets which will

assist students with note-taking, reading, writing, studying, research, time management,

organization, and math. several of those gadgets include software system, apps, and inbuilt

utilities that students could have already got on their computers and mobile devices or will

download for free. (Cal Poly, 2019)

Significance of the Study

The results of this study is significant to school heads, parents, teachers, students and other

researchers?

School Heads. This is beneficial for them to impose disciplinary action for students who were

addicted to electronic gadgets especially the students whose grades and school attendance are

greatly affected.

Teachers. This study is important because it would help teachers examine whether the use of

electronic gadget has negative implication on students- note-taking behaviours and subsequent

performance on exam and study habits.

Parents. The result would be beneficial for them to be reminded of their important roles as

parents. They would make constant follow-up on their children’s study time.

Students. This study is important to remain aware of their responsibilities while using their

favorite gadget because many academics and researchers believe that excessive use of the

internet and other sophisticated gadgets have the potential to become an addiction.

Definition of Terms

The following terms are operationally and/or conceptually defined to provide a

clearer understanding of this study.

Cell Phone-a phone with access to a cellular radio system so it can be used over a wide area,

without a physical connection to a network; a mobile phone.

Gadget- a small mechanical or electronic device or tool, especially an ingenious or novel one.
