DIVISION OF CITY SCHOOLS

SAMPAGUITA HIGH SCHOOL

CALOOCAN CITY

February 08, 2019 –Friday

I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion, at least 75% of the students should be able to:
a. enumerate different energy resources found in the Philippines;
b. explain the uses of different energy resources; and
c. cite the advantages of different energy resources in the Philippines;

II. Lesson
Quarter 4: Earth and Space
Module 1: The Philippine Environment
Topic: Energy Resources
Activity: Uses of Energy Resources

III. Reference
Grade 7 Science Learners Module pages 300-302

IV. Materials
Visual aids and pictures.

V. Lesson Proper

Routine Check
- Opening prayer, greetings, checking of cleanliness, checking of attendance.

A. Engage
The student will ask to observe the pictures.
Guide Questions:
1. What do you observe?
2. What are the renewable energy resources?

WORD OF WISDOM
Directions: The students will fill in the box.
SOLAR ENERGY 1. is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range of ever-
evolving technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaic, solar thermal energy, solar architecture,
molten salt power plants and artificial photosynthesis.
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY 2. is the heat from the Earth. It's clean and sustainable. Resources of
geothermal energy range from the shallow ground to hot water and hot rock found a few miles beneath
the Earth's surface, and down even deeper to the extremely high temperatures of molten rock called
magma.
HYDROELECTRIC POWERPLANT 3. flowing water creates energy that can be captured and
turned into electricity. This is called hydroelectric power or hydropower. The most common type of
hydroelectric power plant uses a dam on a river to store water in a reservoir.
NATURAL GAS 4. is often described as “clean burning” because it produces fewer undesirable by-
products per unit energy than coal or petroleum. Like all fossil fuels, its combustion emits carbon
dioxide, but at about half the rate of coal per kilowatt hour of electricity generated. It is also more
energy efficient.
WIND ENERGY 5. describes the process by which wind is used to generate electricity. Wind
turbines convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical power. A generator can convert
mechanical power into electricity.

B. Explore
Activity 1: What are the Uses of Energy Resources?
The students will identify and write the uses of Energy resources and where can be found in the
Philippines.

C.Explain
Teacher: What is wind energy?
Student: It is used to generate electricity from windmills
Teacher: Okay very good! Where can you found windmills in the Philippines?
Student: In Bangui, Ilocos Norte.
Teacher: Very good! How about solar energy? What is solar energy?
Student: It is used to generate electricity from the sun to the solar panel.
Teacher: Very good! Where can you found solar panel?
Student: In provinces and establishments.
Teacher: Very good! What is geothermal energy?
Student: Energy that is came from heat of the earth and can convert to electricity.
Teacher: Very good! Where can you found geothermal energy?
Student: Albay, Sorsogon, Laguna, Leyte and in Cotabato.
Teacher: Very good! What is natural gas?
Student: Natural gas is a form of fossil fuels, coal and oil used to generate electricity, run vehicle and
factory machinerys.
Teacher: Very Good! Where can you found natural gas?
Student: Semirara Island, Antique, Cebu, Zamboangga and Surigao.
Teacher: Very Good! What is Hydroelectric powerplants?
Student: it used water to generate electricity.
Teacher: Very Good!

D. Elaborate
Based from the picture what do you think is the advantages of energy resources?

E. Evaluate
Directions: Write the letter of the correct answer.

A. Wind Energy C. Geothermal energy
B. Solar energy D. Hydroelectric energy
2. What do you call the energy resources that used the heat of the Earth?
A. Wind Energy C. Geothermal energy
B. Solar energy D. Hydroelectric energy
3. Which statement is incorrect?
A. Solar panel used the heat coming from the sun to generate electricity.
B. Wind energy used windmills to generate electricity.
C. Natural gas such as coal and oils used to generate electricity and run vehicles and
machineries.
D. Geothermal energy used fossil fuels to generate electricity.
4. What do you call the energy resources that used windmills?
A. Wind Energy C. Geothermal energy
B. Solar energy D. Hydroelectric energy
5. What do you call the energy resources that used the current of water to generate electricity?
A. Wind Energy C. Geothermal energy
B. Solar energy D. Hydroelectric energy

VI. Assignment
Student will answer the following question and write in their notebook.
1. What is renewable and non-renewable energy?
2. How will you protect our natural resources?
