3. Phenomenon and countermeasures

<Phenomenon>
a) JUE-87 ACSE (NAF-253GM) maintenance version Ver.1.12 and JUE-85 ACSE (NAF-253GM)
maintenance version Ver.10.54 have the following phenomenon:
- If starting up the function of SSAS real transmission, SSAS test transmission, or the
scheduled transmission, JUE-87 may repeat the same transmission two or three times.
b) JUE-87 IME (NTF-318)’s DTE maintenance version Ver.1.12 has the following phenomenon:
- If “Network type” of the scheduled transmission No.1 to No.5 is setup as “E-mail”, the all
EME’s setting data cannot be carried out Export/Import function correctly.

<Countermeasures>
a) Regarding JUE-87 ACSE (NAF-253GM) maintenance version Ver.1.13 and JUE-85 ACSE
(NAF-253GM), improved that SSAS and the scheduled multiple transmission are not carried out.
b) Regarding JUE-87 IME (NTF-318)’s DTE maintenance version Ver.1.13, improved that the all
EME’s setting data can be carried out Export/Import function correctly.

- Confirm a software version in an alarm pack by all means, because there may be the
mismatch of the software version by the delivery date of EME and IME which are
equipped from now. In case of the mismatch of the software version combination, upgrade
to the new software. (See the attachment3.)
- If the new DTE software upgrading fails and IME does not start correctly, update it using
the recovery DTE software. (See the attachment5.)

b) In case of JUE-85 with NAF-253GM

- JUE-85’s EME is the current type “NAF-253GM” and the old type “NAF-741GM”. Because
this objective EME is the current type “NAF-253GM”, please be careful.
- This new function correctly works with the above software version combination.
- The software upgrading refers to the attachment4 “JUE-85 with NAF-253GM’s ACSE
Software Update Procedure”. The new software can be downloaded from the Marine
Service Department WEB site.

1. Outline
This manual explains update procedure of Inmarsat-C JUE-87 software.

2. Preparation

2-1 Upgrade equipment

(1) Prepare below parts

3-1 DTE software upgrading

It takes about 5 minutes for a software upgrading of DTE.

(1) Turn on the IME.

(2) The boot screen will be displayed about 5 seconds after turn on the IME.
Press the ‘N’+ ‘D’+ ‘Z’ keys during “now loading” in the boot screen.
The maintenance mode will be initiated.

NOTE

Please wait about 30 seconds after initiating to maintenance mode

until communication between EME-IME starts.

(3) Press up key or down key, select [4. Software Upgrade] and press ‘Enter’ key on Maintenance
Menu screen. Software Upgrade menu screen (refer to Fig.3-1b) will be displayed.

(4) Press up key or down key, select [1. Target] and press ‘Enter’ key on Software Upgrade menu
screen (refer to Fig.3-1b).

(5) Press up key or down key, select “DTE Main” and press ‘Enter’ key.

(6) Confirm Software Version in [3. Current Maintenance Info.].

When Version is "01.13", the upgrade of DTE software is unnecessary.

(7) Press up key or down key, select [2. Input Port] and press ‘Enter’ key on Software Upgrade menu
screen (refer to Fig.3-1b).

(8) Press up key or down key, select “USB Memory” and press ‘Enter’ key.

(9) Insert the USB Flash memory which includes DTE Main software and auxiliary file for recovery
to the DTE.

NOTE

- USB symbol will be displayed beside screen title when USB Flash memory is inserted.
- To remove the USB Flash memory safety, press ‘Shift + R’ keys.

(10) Press up key or down key, select [4. File Selection] and press ‘Enter’ key on Software Upgrade
menu screen (refer to Fig.3-1b).

(11) Press up key or down key, select DTE Main software and press ‘Enter’ key.

3-2 Export
Save the each parameter into a file or print out before the ACSE/IME updating, because the updating
clears all the parameters of ACSE/IME.

The parameters can be/ cannot be restored after saved are:

x Can be restored
Setting of peripheral function (automatic print, printer connection, port setting, etc.)
Address Book of TELEX/Facsimile/Data (PSDN)
NCS information, LES name, Schedule transmission setting, SSAS setting,
Land ID registration for polling, and EGC reception selecting
x Cannot be restored
Ocean Region selection, received message, EGC message, alarm pack, PV test result,
SSAS password, and schedule program, etc.

NOTE

Please wait about 30 seconds after initiating to maintenance mode

until communication between EME-IME starts.

(1) Turn on the IME.

(2) The boot screen will be displayed about 5 seconds after turn on the IME.
Press the ‘N’+ ‘D’ + ‘Z’ keys during “now loading” in the boot screen.
The maintenance mode will be initiated.
(3) Press up key or down key, select [5. Inmarsat-C Setting & Checking] and press ‘Enter’ key on
Maintenance Menu screen. Continuously, select [Export/Import] and press ‘Enter’ key.
Export/Import screen (refer to Fig.3-2b) will be displayed.

(5) Enter the name of Export file and Press [F1] (Fig.3-2d is displayed).

3-3 IME software upgrading

(5) Press up key or down key, select “IME” and press ‘Enter’ key.

(6) Confirm Software Version in [3. Current Maintenance Info.].

When Version is "01.02", the upgrade of IME software is unnecessary.

NOTE

When target is selected, [Current Software Version] may be displayed as ‘UNKNOWN’.

(Current software was unavailable, etc)
Even in this case, since Upgrade can be carried out, please advance a procedure as it is.

When an upgrade confirmation screen isn't displayed even if '*' key is pressed after a procedure
(1)-(11) is put into effect, please press Ctrl+I key.
After confirming that "- Press '*' key" is shown to< Functions>, please press '*' key once again.

3-4 ACSE (EME) software upgrading

It takes about 20 minutes for a software upgrading of ACSE.

NOTE
Be careful about the following thing about upgrade work.
㺃When a power supply of a terminal became off while doing an upgrade, there is a possibility
that JUE-87 doesn't start. The upgrade is possible even in that case. Try an upgrade once again.

(1) Turn on the IME.

(2) The boot screen will be displayed about 5 seconds after turn on the IME.
Press the ‘N’+ ‘D’+ ‘Z’ keys during “now loading” in the boot screen.
The maintenance mode will be initiated.

NOTE

Please wait about 30 seconds after initiating to maintenance mode

until communication between EME-IME starts.

(3) Press up key or down key, select [4. Software Upgrade] and press ‘Enter’ key on Maintenance
Menu screen. Software Upgrade menu screen (refer to Fig.3-4b) will be displayed.

(4) Press up key or down key, select [1. Target] and press ‘Enter’ key on Software Upgrade menu
screen (refer to Fig.3-4b).

(5) Press up key or down key, select “ACS” and press ‘Enter’ key.

(6) Confirm Software Version in [3. Current Maintenance Info.].

When Version is "01.13", the upgrade of ACSE software is unnecessary.

NOTE

UNKNOWN is sometimes shown to [Software Version]. (When software isn't written in or

the present software is abnormal.)
A software upgrade is possible even in that case. Advance a procedure.

(7) Press up key or down key, select [2. Input Port] and press ‘Enter’ key on Software Upgrade menu
screen (refer to Fig.3-4b).

(8) Press up key or down key, select “USB Memory” and press ‘Enter’ key.

NOTE

When an upgrade confirmation screen isn't displayed even if '*' key is pressed after a procedure

3-5 FROM/SRAM Initialization

NOTE

Initialization of FROM/SRAM clears configuration information, such as a SSAS

Transmission, and important log, such as Alarm history, call log, etc.
Please do not initialize recklessly.

(1) Turn on the IME.

(2) The boot screen will be displayed about 5 seconds after turn on the IME.
Press the ‘N’+ ‘D’+ ‘Z’ keys during “now loading” in the boot screen.
The maintenance mode will be initiated.

NOTE

Please wait about 30 seconds after initiating to maintenance mode

until communication between EME-IME starts.

(3) Press up key or down key, select [5. Inmarsat-C Setting & Checking] and press ‘Enter’ key on
Maintenance Menu screen. Continuously, select [Data Initialize] and press ‘Enter’ key.
Inmarsat-C Checking screen (refer to Fig.3-5b) will be displayed.

(4) Press up key or down key, select [FROM Clear] and press ‘Enter’ key.

(8) Restart Inmarsat-C terminal in a power button of IME.

(3) Press up key or down key, select [5. Inmarsat-C Setting & Checking] and press ‘Enter’ key on
Maintenance Menu screen. Continuously, select [Export/Import] and press ‘Enter’ key.

This manual explains upgrade procedure of Inmarsat-C JUE-85 with NAF-253GM
(“JUE-85-A”) ACSE(EME) software. (Maintenance Number: 10.55)

2. Preparation

3-1 Outlines

When Maintenance Number is "10.55", the upgrade of ACSE software is unnecessary.

4) ACSE(EME) software upgrading

It takes about 20 minutes for a software upgrading of ACSE.

NOTE
Please note the following matters for upgrading.
1. JUE-85 might not shift to the update mode due to the compatibility of PC and the USB
serial conversion cable. In this case, please try the work about ten times repeatedly.
The mode might shift normally when several times tried.

2. JUE-85 might not start normally after turning off the power supply of the terminal during
upgrading. Even in this case, upgrading is also possible.
Try upgrading again.

3-2 Details

1) ACSE(EME) software upgrading preparation

Connect each equipment, as shown in Fig.1. Then turn ON the power supply of IME.

ͤ Change the DIP switch of IME PANEL to a model of a target. (refer to attachment) And
carry out software upgrade.

2) Export
Save the each parameter into a file or print out before the ACSE/IME updating, because the
updating clears all the parameters of ACSE/IME.

The parameters can be/ cannot be restored after saved are:

x Can be restored
Setting of peripheral function (automatic print, printer connection, port setting, etc.),
Address Book of TELEX/Facsimile/Data (PSDN), NCS information, LES name,
Schedule transmission setting, SSAS setting Land ID registration for polling, and EGC
reception selecting
x Cannot be restored
Ocean Region selection, received message, EGC message, alarm pack, PV test result,
SSAS password, and schedule program, etc.

NOTE

1. About the data of received message, EGC message, and alarm pack, save them to a file or print
out, because upgrading software clears all of them away.

2. When the Schedule program (Data report program using DNID) is registered into main unit, the
customer should download the Schedule program into the service provider again, because updating
software also clears Schedule program.

(1) Activate the PC tool [winIST_CN149] on your PC.

(2) Click [Export/Import] from MENU LIST. Then, the column of [Export/Import] is displayed in
the right side of the screen (refer to Fig.2).

(3) Click [EXPORT] of [Export/Import] column in Fig.2 (Fig.3 is displayed).

(4) Enter the name of Export file and click [Save] (Fig.4 is displayed).

(1) Activate the PC tool [winIST_CN149] on your PC.
(2) Click [Alarm Pack] from MENU LIST. Then, the column of [Alarm Pack] is displayed in the
right side of the screen (refer to Fig.7).

(3) Click READ button.

4) ACSE(EME) software upgrading

(1) Activate PC tool [winIST_CN149] on the PC.

(2) Click [Update] from MENU LIST. [Update] column is displayed in right side (refer
to Fig.9).

(3) Select [ACS] in the [Update] column of [Target] (refer to Fig.10).

(4) When the dialog box of Fig.A1.2.1.3c is displayed, turn OFF the power switch of the IME. And
click [OK] after the LED of the IME is automatically turned off.

(6) The dialog box of Fig.A1.2.1.3e is displayed when the acquisition of terminal software
information is succeeded. Click [OK].

(7) When [OK] button in Fig.13 (dialog box) is clicked, the screen is returned to ACSE/IME
software updating screen and [Old module OK] is displayed in the [Information] column of
[Old] (refer to Fig.14).

(8) Click [FILE SELECT] button and display [File Select] dialog box (refer to Fig.15).

(9) When ACSE software [JUE85-A_ACS1055.jrc] is selected at Fig.15, the screen is return to
ACSE/IME software updating screen and [It is possible to update!] is displayed in the lower
part of [Update] column (refer to Fig.16).

(10) Click [Update] button at Fig.16 (Fig.17 is displayed).

(11) Click [Yes] in Fig.17. Then the updating is started and Fig.18 is displayed during updating.

When the power source of the terminal is turned off during upgrade, repeat the procedure from (3).

(12) Fig.19 is displayed when updating is completed. Click [OK].

5) Maintenance Number confirmation after upgrading

(1) Activate the PC tool [winIST_CN149] on your PC.

1. Outline
This manual explains recovery upgrade procedure of Inmarsat-C JUE-87 IME (NTF-318)’s
DTE software.

2. Preparation
1) Prepare below parts
x USB Flash memory

2) Prepare below files on your USB Flash memory.

Put the files in each specified directory.

NOTE
࣭It is necessary to put the files (DTE software and auxiliary file for recovery) in each
specified directory. The DTE cannot be upgraded when the files are putted in
incorrect directory.
࣭DTE recovery software for JUE-87 IME (NTF-318) and JUE-85 DTE (NDZ-227) is the
same file name, however, is not different from the file content.

3. Procedure
(1) Turn on the JUE-87.
(2) Recovery mode will be initiated automatically (refer to Fig.1).

(3) Insert the USB Flash memory which includes DTE software and auxiliary file for
recovery to the DTE. Upgrading will be started automatically after insert the USB
Flash memory.*1)

*1) For reference, if the DTE is turned on after the USB Flash memory is inserted,
upgrading will be started automatically too.

 (4) Fig.2 will be displayed after upgrading is finished. The DTE will be rebooted
30 seconds after Fig.2 is displayed.

NOTE
Even when that's an upgrade of JUE-87 DTE software, indication of a screen is
NDZ-227C. That's normal.
